MLB Power Rankings: Mets and Yankees Climb, Value on Angels World Series Odds?

The Major League Baseball season has been going for a month, and while there have been some disappointments, there have also been early surprises and teams that have lived up to expectations.
MLB has a clear dividing line between haves and have-nots, so it should come as no surprise to see teams like the Dodgers, Mets, and Yankees at the top, with the Reds, Pirates, and Royals at the bottom. In some cases, it was practically pre-ordained.
Here are my first month MLB Power Rankings, with World Series odds courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook.

1. Los Angeles Dodgers (16-7; +450 to win the World Series)
The Dodgers are supposed to be favorites and they are playing like it. Having Clayton Kershaw in fine form helps, too.
2. New York Mets (19-9; +800)
Jacob deGrom’s injury opened the door for Tylor Megill to grab a spot in the rotation and he has been outstanding, posting a 2.43 ERA and 0.90 WHIP in six starts.
3. New York Yankees (18-7; +700)
The Yankees vaulted to the best record in MLB thanks to an 11-game winning streak. Aaron Judge and Anthony Rizzo have both crushed nine home runs.

4. Houston Astros (15-11; +950)
Justin Verlander is healthy and dealing again, while the Astros are looking for new leaders on offense, like DH Yordan Alvarez and rookie shortstop Jeremy Pena.
5. Milwaukee Brewers (18-8; +1100)
The starting pitching is great, as expected, and the Brewers have an offense that is led by shortstop Willy Adames and first baseman Rowdy Tellez.
6. San Diego Padres (17-9; +1600)
Even without injured shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr., the Padres are running neck-and-neck with the Dodgers atop the National League West, thanks in large part to Manny Machado, who leads MLB with 2.6 Fan Graphs WAR.
7. Toronto Blue Jays (16-11; +700)
The Blue Jays might have championship talent, but they have been dependent on winning one-run games early and have a negative run differential.
8. Los Angeles Angels (17-10; +2500)
After years of disappointment, the Angels feel different this season. Of course, Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani are great, but 28-year-old Taylor Ward is having a breakout season, too.

9. St. Louis Cardinals (15-10; +3500)
Consistency matters for the Cardinals. Nolan Arenado has been one of the most valuable players in baseball and the rotation has been anchored by Adam Wainwright, Miles Mikolas, and Steven Matz.
10. Atlanta Braves (12-15; +1300)
The defending champs have been treading water, but they were missing Ronald Acuna Jr. to start the season, and he has started slowly, so that should come around.

11. Philadelphia Phillies (11-15; +3500)
For all of the talent on the Phillies roster, they were supposed to be better than this and while they have a positive run differential, they have still underachieved to this point.
12. San Francisco Giants (14-11; +2000)
The path through the National League West is not easy, but the Giants are right there, lurking behind the Dodgers and Padres as new ace Carlos Rodon has continued to pitch at the level he established with the White Sox last season.
13. Colorado Rockies (15-10; +20000)
Shockingly effective early, the Rockies have a tough path through the NL West, but first baseman C.J. Cron is crushing the ball and Chad Kuhl has been a revelation in the starting rotation.
14. Minnesota Twins (15-11; +3500)
Healthy Byron Buxton is an MVP candidate. The pitching staff led by Joe Ryan, Bailey Ober, and Chris Paddack has them leading the American League Central.
15. Tampa Bay Rays (16-10; +2000)
The Rays have been running three starting pitchers – Shane McClanahan, Corey Kluber, and Drew Rasmussen – along with a variety of openers in the other games and it continues to work.
16. Miami Marlins (12-13; +8000)
There have been some signs of progress in South Florida. The strong pitching is expected but second baseman Jazz Chisholm is adding some life to the offense.

17. Boston Red Sox (10-16; +4000)
The American League East is not a division that will be forgiving of a slow start, it appears, so the Red Sox can ill afford to have this continue. They need a lot more from newcomer Trevor Story, as well as Alex Verdugo and Bobby Dalbec.
18. Seattle Mariners (12-14; +4500)
It appears that there is still more for the Mariners to achieve, as they do have a positive run differential despite newcomer Jesse Winker and young outfielder Jarred Kelenic struggling mightily at the plate.
19. Cleveland Guardians (12-13; +13000)
Third baseman Jose Ramirez is a perennial MVP candidate, and he is in the conversation again. If he can drag this group to the playoffs, that might be enough to put him over the top.
20. Chicago White Sox (11-13; +1900)
Expected to lead the AL Central, the White Sox have struggled at the plate, which was not in the plans, but they have won three in a row and that keeps them within range of the Twins at the top of the division.
21. Arizona Diamondbacks (13-13; +60000)
A .500 record leaves the Diamondbacks in last place in the NL West, but they have been far more respectable than they were supposed to be this season. Starting pitchers Zac Gallen and Merrill Kelly have combined for a 1.27 ERA in 10 starts and that goes a long way.

22. Chicago Cubs (9-15; +18000)
The Cubs were longshots entering the season and have lived down to those expectations, though they have only been outscored by three runs, so they probably deserve a little better than their current record.

23. Texas Rangers (10-14; +30000)
Considering that the Rangers’ best pitcher has been Martin Perez, this has been a decent start to the season, in relative terms.
24. Oakland Athletics (10-15; +80000)
Few teams were as conspicuous as the A’s when it came to mailing in the season and they are not going to contend, to be sure, but they did have a 10-9 record before their current six-game losing streak.
25. Detroit Tigers (8-16; +20000)
The Tigers might not have been considered contenders this season but were supposed to be further along the path towards respectability, with a young pitching staff they could build around. Not there yet.
26. Washington Nationals (9-18; +80000)
The Nationals’ top pitcher by fWAR is Patrick Corbin, who has a 0.5 WAR, despite a 7.16 ERA, so there is a long way to go before this team has a competent supporting cast for superstar outfielder Juan Soto.
27. Baltimore Orioles (10-16; +100000)
All things considered this has not been a terrible start for the Orioles. They are going to bring up top prospect catcher Adley Rutschman and that will add some sense of optimism for a team that still has a long way to go.
28. Kansas City Royals (8-15; +25000)
Who would have guessed that two of the weak links on the Royals for the first month of the season would be Salvador Perez and Whit Merrifield?
29. Pittsburgh Pirates (10-14; +80000)
While their record is not terrible, yet, the Pirates have been outscored by 37 runs, the third worst differential in MLB.
30. Cincinnati Reds (3-22; +100000)
This is a season for the ages, in all the wrong ways. Coming on the heels of the owner thumbing his nose at the fans at the start of the season, after cutting salaries in the offseason, this has been a slow-motion car crash of a season.Make sure to keep an eye on our Live Odds page throughout the week to get the best lines possible and connect with others in the SBR community on our popular sports betting forum.
