Liv Golf Invitational Bedminster Power Rankings: Dustin Johnson Still the Guy To Beat

Here are our updated LIV Golf Power Rankings leading into the event beginning Thursday, July 29.

It’s been an incredible series of events since The Open Championship for the LIV Golf Invitational Series, as rumors of Open champ Cameron Smith joining the tour, and Henrik Stenson being removed of his captaincy for the European Ryder Cup team have dominated headlines ahead of the Bedminster event.

Not to mention the addition of analyst David Feherty to the broadcast team, and rumors that TNT NBA analyst Charles Barkley could be next.

The LIV Golf Invitational Bedminster event will be held at Trump National Golf Club Bedminster in Bedminster, NJ. 45 of the 48 players in the field have been announced by the upstart tour.

While betting markets aren’t currently available for the Bedminster tournament, here are our updated LIV Golf Power Rankings leading into the event beginning Thursday, July 29.

LIV Golf Invitational Bedminster Power Rankings

10. Talor Gooch

A third-round 75 ruined any chance Gooch had of making legitimate noise at The Open, but he finished tied for 34th and fired three rounds in the 60s. He’s also coming off a sixth-place finish in his past LIV event and projects to have another solid showing in Bedminster.

9. Branden Grace

The LIV Portland winner, Grace has shined in the three-day, shotgun format with a T-3 result in the series’ opening London tournament, too. The two-time PGA Tour winner also finished a respectable T-24 in the Genesis Scottish Open, so his current form is sound.

8. Matthew Wolff

The 23-year-old American hasn’t teed it competitive since T-7 at the LIV Portland tournament. While he hasn’t had a strong PGA Tour season, Wolff remains one of the most promising young golfers in the world. Albeit, an incredibly streaky player.

7. Carlos Ortiz

After a single top-10 finish on the PGA Tour this season, Ortiz finished second at the LIV Portland event in his series debut. He’s probably also eyeing significant statistical correction after posting .399 strokes gained: total last year compared to his -.622 mark during the 2021-22 season.

6. Louis Oosthuizen

The accomplished would rank a lot higher entering the Bedminster event had he made the cut at The Open Championship, especially considering his lone major championship came at this year’s venue. Still, Oosthuizen has consecutive top-10 finishes in the LIV series, so he remains a threat this week.

5. Abraham Ancer

A final-round 65 inched Ancer into T-11 at The Open, and he also finished T-11 at the LIV Portland event, so his game is trending in the right direction. He ranks 20th in the Official World Golf Rankings and has five top-25 finishes on the PGA Tour this season.

4. Brooks Koepka

It’s been a miserable season for Koepka. Heralding himself as someone who rises to the occasion at major championships, he missed the cut at The Masters and The Open, and respectively finished T-55 and 55th at the PGA Championship and U.S. Open.

Add his mediocre T-10 finish in his LIV series debut at Portland, and he’s earning this ranking more on potential and name value than his current form.

3. Patrick Reed

It shouldn’t surprise anyone if the nine-time PGA Tour winner emerges as a Saturday contender at every LIV tournament he pegs it at. Reed embraced the novelties of the Portland event and T-3. Plus, he just seems cut out to be one of the faces for the controversial tour.

2. Bryson DeChambeau

Shooting 74 on Day 2 of The Open kept Dechambeau from taking a run at his second career major championship, but finishing T-8 should signal he’s nearly back to full health. Rewind to last PGA Tour season, and he won twice with 12 top-25 finishes in 22 events. He’s a legitimate star and still just 28 years old.

1. Dustin Johnson

It’s been a quiet season for Johnson overall, but he’s played well in the two LIV series events (6th and T-3) and just fired four, under-par rounds at The Open for a T-6 finish. Plus, even in a down season, he ranks 10th in both driving distance and birdie average on the PGA Tour this season.
