The USC Trojans, led by new head coach Lincoln Riley, have received the largest betting handle to win the 2022 College Football Playoff National Championship at Caesars Sportsbook.

Riley spent five years coaching the Oklahoma Sooners and led the organization to four Big 12 Championships before being hired as the head coach of the Trojans on Nov. 28.

A top-ranked transfer class led by quarterback Caleb Williams and wide receiver Jordan Addison will also join Riley at USC for the 2022 season.

As a result, bettors have taken a shine to the Trojans with 22% of the betting handle and 10% of the betting tickets, the third most to win the National Championship.

The Trojans were available at +3500 to win the National Championship in late April, but Caesars bookmakers have clipped USC down to +2500 — a 3.8% implied probability.

Only the Alabama Crimson Tide (+200), Georgia Bulldogs (+325), Ohio State Buckeyes (+450), Clemson Tigers (+1400) and Texas A&M Aggies (+2200) currently have shorter odds to win it all this season.

Considering the Trojans only won four games last season, it’s noteworthy to see such a leap in faith in a USC turnaround from bettors.  After all, even with all his success at Oklahoma, Riley has lost all three of the College Football Playoff games he’s appeared in.
