Each year, sports betting sites release player prop futures that can be bet on before the NFL season begins. This may include who will lead the NFL in passing yards, or who will score the most rushing touchdowns.

Several years ago, these markets were only available prior to the start of the season. As soon as Week 1 of the NFL season rolled around, these markets were withdrawn for the remainder of the season. You were stuck with whatever you bet before the year began, as there was no week-to-week update.

Over the last few seasons, this has changed: one sportsbook decided to keep their futures markets live throughout the entire season, so everyone else followed suit. The NFL season is now in full swing, and I wanted to take a closer look at which sportsbooks are doing the best job of keeping these markets active throughout the season.

The following is a power ranking of the top sportsbooks for NFL player futures.

1. FanDuel Sportsbook

Markets Offered Hold %
Most Passing Yards17.63%
Most Passing Touchdowns26.09%
Most Rushing Yards20.34%
Most Rushing Touchdowns36.20%
Most Receiving Yards21.01%
Most Receiving Touchdowns35.65%
Most Scrimmage Yards29.35%
Most Interceptions Thrown35%
Most Sacks25.73%

It should not be surprising to see FanDuel at the top of the power rankings for NFL player futures markets. With its storied history in daily fantasy sports, it would almost be disappointing if FanDuel didn't top the list.

Why does FanDuel rank No. 1? Quite simply, it has the most markets available combined with the lowest hold percentage.

However, FanDuel's low hold percentages are accompanied by an asterisk. In several of these markets, FanDuel has the least number of players listed, which allows it to maintain a lower hold percentage than its competitors.

For those interested in betting on player futures for the NFL season, FanDuel is a must-have sportsbook.

2. DraftKings Sportsbook

Markets OfferedHold %
Most Passing Yards26.92%
Most Passing Touchdowns27.15%
Most Rushing Yards42.42%
Most Rushing Touchdowns57.20%
Most Receiving Yards50.45%
Most Receiving Touchdowns67.82%
Most Receptions68.69%
Most Interceptions Thrown38.74%
Most Sacks51.60%

DraftKings' extensive offering of futures markets earns it the No. 2 spot in my power rankings. And there's a path to No. 1 if DraftKings makes one simple change.

In comparison to FanDuel, DraftKings has significantly more players listed in each market, which explains why the hold percentage is so high. Among the players available on DraftKings, there are too many that are not going to win trading in the +10000 range. I am thinking of you, Kenny Golladay (+8000 to score the most receiving touchdowns ... what?!?).

To climb the power rankings, DraftKings must make some changes to the way it handicaps these markets, which includes offering more players at prices north of +30000. There are 56 players trading at +15000 in the DK market to lead the NFL in receiving touchdowns. Many of these players should be priced at +50000, which would dramatically reduce the hold.

Historically, DraftKings has been one of the more cautious sportsbooks when it comes to offering longshots on player futures. It was evident from its MLB awards, where it would never price anyone higher than +10000. That needs to change.

3. BetMGM Sportsbook

Markets OfferedHold %
Most Passing Yards25.24%
Most Passing Touchdowns27.42%
Most Rushing Yards40.25%
Most Rushing Touchdowns55.06%
Most Receiving Yards48.48%
Most Receiving Touchdowns57.81%
Most Receptions62.01%
Most Interceptions Thrown38.54%

BetMGM finds itself in a similar position as DraftKings. Its markets offer a large number of players, but the prices are not high enough, resulting in a high hold percentage.

There are slightly fewer markets available on BetMGM than on FanDuel and DraftKings. Most notable is the absence of most scrimmage yards and most sacks. Prior to the start of the season, BetMGM carried a number of markets that weren't available in many other places, including most kickoff points, most rookie receiving yards, and most tackles.

In order for BetMGM to compete with FanDuel and DraftKings, it should bring these markets back to life. Providing more markets than FanDuel and DraftKings would be an impressive statement from a sportsbook that was not previously in the daily fantasy sports market. And it would encourage me to open an account at BetMGM if I did not already have one.

4. PointsBet Sportsbok

Markets Offered Hold %
Most Passing Yards20.99%
Most Passing Touchdowns22.97%
Most Rushing Yards25.88%
Most Receiving Yards34.40%

It is disappointing to see so few markets remain active throughout the regular season at PointsBet, a sportsbook that is generally very innovative in what it offers. I would, however, like to give credit where credit is due.

I am impressed with the low hold percentages we are seeing across the board. As a futures bettor, this indicates that although PointsBet does not offer a wide selection of markets, the ones it does offer are valuable. You should definitely do some of your shopping at PointsBet if you intend to attack any of the four markets that the sportsbook keeps active.

5. Caesars Sportsbook

Markets OfferedHold %
Most Passing Yards 26.50%
Most Passing Touchdowns32.43%
Most Rushing Yards41.95%
Most Receiving Yards51.26%

I must admit, I am very disappointed with what I am seeing from Caesars. Caesars is one of my favorite sportsbooks when it comes to NFL futures betting, but it's really lacking when it comes to player futures. Caesars offers significantly more options in the team futures department.

The main reason I am disappointed that Caesars does not offer more markets is that it's a sportsbook that is likely to take a higher wager. Despite the sparse markets and high hold percentages at Caesars, it will allow you to wager more than FanDuel if it has a player you like from a price shopping standpoint.

6. Barstool Sportsbook

Markets Offered Hold %
Most Passing Yards21.39%
Most Rushing Yards35.48%
Most Receiving Yards40.94%

Only three markets are available, and none of them rank as the lowest hold percentages in those markets. That's tough! There is a long way to go before Barstool catches up to the likes of FanDuel when it comes to NFL players futures.
