Is there a reason why Safarova? She is strong on the surface, but Li has dominated the h2h and has been a magician on clay.

Safarova's been playing very well on clay. She pretty much straight setted and crushed everyone except for Serena on her last clay tourney. I believe this is Li's first clay tourney this year. Should be a close match.

small play safarova +170....in H2H li hasnt beaten her on Clay they have only met once in 05 not really that relavent but I havent seen li play one clay match here lately

She is 11-1 against lower ranked opponents this year and 1-1 against higher ranked opponents. She is the Garros defending champ. Safarova is scrappy and talented on clay and has been playing all over. I think the China woman takes this as she has been focused on this surface and gearing up for French defense.

Practice doesnt equal real tournament play......she hasnt played a clay match this year.....

The way I capped this match, both talents are about equal on clay so if I can get Safarova at +150 or so, I'll go with that. Li does have a nice record against lower opponents but throw those stats out the window with clay ....much more upsets happen on clay than any other surface. ....and in the WTA, unless you're the top 5, any of the top 20's can beat each other on any given day.

For some reason, I'm thinking Li might not have as much drive for this tourney. She's getting older and she might be saving up for the slams....just my opinion....good luck!

Li's groundstrokes are indeed better so far....but Saf's serving is going to play a big part in this....she's gotten a lot of easy points....tiebreak here we come.
