Federer is the best for titles and in the overall.
But I can easily adfirm, and everytime I say this people laugh but I'm really serious, that the one who expressed the highest level of Tennis in history is David Nalbandian.

For the women, I do have to say Steffi Graf. And not only because I'm from Germany. She did play some absolutely amazing tennis. Her technical skills were absolutely amazing. You could actually enjoy watching her games, not like these days, where you just have to hate watching WTA....
For the man it's not so easy to say. Probably one out of these:
Federer: Yeah, he is (was) great! Lots of ideas, great skills overall. But the problem I do see with him is: his competition is (was) much weaker than it was back in the days. Lost against Sampras, 5 years after Pete retired....
John McEnroe: Best serve-and-volley player of all times. Spectacular to watch.
Björn Borg: Totally cool, totally calm. Unfortunately he ended his career with just 26 years....
Ivan Lendl: Boring. Boring as hell. But successfull. Point.
Pete Sampras: Nerves out of steel. Great serve.
Jimmy Connors: A fighter. Aggressive. 5 years straight Nr.1.
Andre Agassi: Great return! Won all 4 Grand Slam titles.
Stefan Edberg: Pure Elegance. Nothing more to say.
Boris Becker: Power power power. Never sticking up. Always trying to win. Not beautiful to watch, but greatest fighter.

Laver is the best.
Come on, Laver played in a different era, Tennis was not so populated and it was clearly easier to dominate.
If Djoko and Nadal would have not existed, Roger would be at 25-30 Slams for sure; there wasn't any "Djokovic" or "Nadal" to contrast Laver at his time. Without forgetting people like Murray, Berdych, Safin, Agassi, Del Potro and many many others that I don't have time to mentionate; all players who played in Fed era and if they guessed the right tournament could and did take out titles to Roger.
Roger Federer but Nadal or Djokovic could pass him in my opinion. Nadal and Djoker keep playing well and winning titles in the grand slams.

I want to say that Federer is the best ever but it's hard to so. Federer is just 10-18 against Nadal. Hard to call someone the best when they have a losing record against their biggest rival. If Djokovic can keep his pace he will probably be the best ever tho. Guy could seriously win all 4 majors in the same year.

women: Seles was incredible. Unfortunately her career was destroyed by the maniac in Germany, and the filthy Germans let the guy off with a slap on the wrist.
men: Federer best career, Djokovic might've had what was the best year ever in 2011.

the reason why federer's HTH vs. Nadal isn't good is because a lot of their matches were on clay. The reality is that Fed/Nadal is about even on non-clay, and that's without considering the fact that Federer is five years older!
Nadal is easily the greatest ever on clay.

rafael nadal, just take a look at agaisnt whom federer won his early slams, guys like hewitt and roddick. nadal did it beating who was at that time supposed to be the best ever. djokovic has to win more majors first before you can seiously consider him

Again, Nadal is five years younger than Federer, so that's discounted by the fact that Federer's prime ended while Nadal was coming into his.
And Nadal didn't dominate Federer. He dominated him on clay courts. There's a difference. Nadal dominated everyone on clay courts.
