    Young over Russel.
I'm taking Young and -140. Anyone else? Opinions?

I was about to start a thread on the match as well. I have Young here as well. He hasn't started off the year as well as ended 2011 but he's 11 years younger and just straight better than Russell.

Young is terribly inconsistent. I don't see how anyone feel good backing him ever. Bad surface for him since he lacks any major weapons to take advantage of the pace of the surface. Would not be surprised with any result in this match, but I think Russell will push him and possibly win.

I still find it humorous that it seems like people consider Young a breakout guy last year because he played well in two whole tournaments. And both of those, his path to deep runs were paved by easy draws against poor players or players in poor form for the most part. I think it was mostly media-driven BS because he won a few matches at the US Open. He beat one noteworthy player in Wawrinka there [a complete fold job by WaWa] and a couple guys with no form in Lacko and Chela then got dressed down by Murray.

I can't stand that Donald prick, had a couple good results and acted like a cocky b1tch on court.

I dont think anybody doubts he is a cocky sob, with some undeserved sense of entitlement. I remember him having some feud with usta over a wild card spot that he didnt get.

This goes into exactly what I was talking about earlier from Tennistalk.com

Perennial tour veteran Michael Russell, ranked 104th in the world, will take on fellow American Donald Young in Tuesday’s feature match. After years of waiting, Young finally had his breakout year in 2011, with a semifinal showing in Washington, a round of 16 berth at the US Open and an appearance in the final of Bangkok.
We've got some very low expectations of a "breakout" year if that right there constitutes a "breakout" year.

they are so hungry for a new american star that is considered a breakout year. I like harrison but he is not going to be a top 10 player ever. Really the only guy that has top 10 potential is isner, I feel his ground game is improving and thats what its going to take.

This is kind of a make or break year if Isner is going to make a push. He's 27 and in his prime. He's starting to show he can win on more than just hard courts. Totally agree on Harrison. I don't like his game at all. Same thing I gripe about with Young, no real weapons to win with. Jack Sock is really the guy for the future of American tennis. Very young. Very green, but he has the tools. If there's ever going to be an American with a chance to be the "next big thing" - I think Sock could be it. This year he's going to get accustomed to a tour schedule between Challengers and ATP events. I think the next 2-3 years for him are crucial. He needs to work on his fitness #1 IMO and I think a huge jumping off point for him would be getting involved in Davis Cup and getting that experience.

It's kind of hard to remember Young is just 23, but there just doesn't seem to be any progression in his game. He might get hot a tournament or two like he did last year, but there's nothing he's going to do to really improve on his game IMO. He wasn't blessed with anything special really.
