As much as I don't care for Lisicki's game over her career thus far, you can't disagree she is lights out of late and playing unreal tennis. Would not shock me if Venus just decided she didn't want the reality check today and just threw in the towel.

She had a viral illness this summer, I doubt there is any "fear" factor here. Venus would take her ass kicking, She's played a lot of matches with injuries before and got her ass handed to her a few times.

Sjögren's syndrome...that's a random illness for a an athlete to 'come up with'. Doesn't exactly pop up overnight.

But I echo EP36, Venus is willing to take her lumps and has done so in the past. Any any rate, pretty bizarre.

No one gets sick in a major. This is all bullshit. Fukking legend Michael Jordan played sick with 103 degree fever vs the Jazz and he was older than Venus Williams. Venus was about to get a beating and decided to withdraw so black people won't watch her lose tonight on prime time.

Ehh, Söderling got a virus and I can understand him withdrawing. If you have a true viral illness, you're literally bedridden for a couple days. With Venus, she looked pretty solid leaving the grounds; no visible symptoms. Sjögren's dries you out like crazy, so she'd just have to keep a bigger eye on her hydration. But I bet she was feeling far worse than she looked externally.

I know not everyone likes the Williams sisters, but no one would have said shit about skin color if it was say Wozniacki or Sharapova. It's pretty sad, but scumbags are scumbags.

Agreed on all accounts.

Though, auto-immune diseases (SLE, RA, Sjögren's, etc.) hit females more than men, and African-Americans more than Caucasians. Damn race, indeed?
