    Alisa Kleybanova diagnosed with cancer
    Very sad.

Former top-20 tennis player Alisa Kleybanova is receiving treatment for Hodgkin's lymphoma, a form of cancer.

In a posting on the WTA's website Friday - her 22nd birthday - Kleybanova said there's a chance she'll be able to play again. She is being treated at a hospital in Italy because she has a training base and close friends there, "so it's like home."
The Russian reached a career-high No. 20 ranking in February, but has been off the tour since May and now is No. 28.

She said: "I miss seeing fans and friends around the world, I miss hitting the ball, I miss everything. Tennis has been my life for the last 15 years."

The WTA called Kleybanova "very strong and optimistic" and wished her a "speedy and full recovery."

Sad to hear this. She was a pretty good player.

I felt awful when I read this. So many times I bagged her out recently for being chubby and looking like she was too tired/lazy to move on the court. Hopefully all goes well with her treatment and she can return to the Tour soon.

Personally I think its amazing she kept that high a ranking knowing now she had the disease. Many athletes have had this and come back strong, best wishes to her for a speedy recovery.

I read her statement today on the wta site http://www.wtatennis.com/news/201107...256076_2393558 , it was her birthday yesterday. The good news is that she sounds optimistic, its just so bizarre when she says tennis had been my life for 15 years and she is only 22, and how much she still talks about tennis during her message.

These kids literally eat and drink tennis from such a young age, I really think that kind of fighting spirit is really going to help her through all this, I bet she will beat this. I sure hope so.
