Ward +5 is better than taking the long shot odds IMO. If Ward holds his nerve and solid, Tsonga has a penchant for letting matches slide along to 7-5 and tie breaks. Especially on quick surfaces where he can skate by with just his serve on many occasions. Ward has been decent enough on serve this week.Comment -

I don't see how Ward can win as he has no weapons to hit Tsonga with. Ward has a good serve and a decent backhand but that's about it. Tsonga will overpower him.

at +940 I would bet this again, ward was a single point away from taking the 2nd set and if that happened chances are he would take the 3rd because tsonga is a mental midget.

There was nothing wrong with this bet, reformed.
People look at rankings and assume blowout, or that ranking means anything at all. If that's the case - I think the Murray/Roddick scoreline today kills that theory dead as it was much more disgraceful than Tsonga/Ward.
Taking a player like Tsonga who drifts in and out of matches at the best of times, and is a Frenchie on top of it, at $1.10-$1.15 is insane. Especially against someone who is on a run like Ward. I almost got on the handicap but it dropped to +4.5 while I was still looking at matches so I skipped it. But at +940 for 1/4 unit is a much smarter play in the Semis of a tournament than -1000 on Tsonga. Think about it - Tsonga would have to win 10 straight matches at that price to slightly beat what you made from Ward winning 1. Would Tsonga win 10 straight against Ward? I seriously doubt it. He came out exactly as expected tight as fk and extremely nervous, which he admitted after the match. He is a good player as seen when he loosened up in the 2nd but in tight spots on that stage he will never win. He would have crumbled in the 3rd when it got tight again.It was never about Tsonga? Why on Earth would you assume I wouldn't know James Ward before this week? This isn't Players Talk. The regulars in the tennis forum are here every day, every week. Not just for Slams or in the lead up to Slams.
As for the part of your statement that I bolded, considering he's never been past the first round here before this week, I'll say your crystal ball must be clearer than mine. But betting for or against someone based on how their countrymen react in similar situations is a sure way to end up in the hole. Especially when their most famous compatriot is actually Scottish.

Oh I definitely know him. He was the talk of Eastbourne last year when he made it to the Quarters finally losing a crappy match (on both sides) against Dolgo.
I would never recommend someone taking this for a full unit. Only because as I said Tsonga's so inconsistent that you never know which version will come out. Definitely a full unit on the handicap though like EP suggested before the match. Expecting Tsonga to break Ward's serve 3 times in a match when he's playing like that would be too much to ask of Tsonga.
But for 1/4 unit like reformed did, then yeah if I could get it at the price he did I'd probably go for it. Considering the tiebreak went to 9-7 in the 2nd, I think I still would've been happy to put down 1/4 to win 9.4x my bet even after the bet lost. Much better than sticking Tsonga in a parlay at -1000. At that price, Tsonga should've smoked him if you listen to the odds. The odds here were wrong.
Then again, I look for dogs to bet who have a higher chance of winning % than the odds state. Some look for favourites instead. Just different styles.

I'm going to wait until tomorrow and see after all of the stats have updated what/if anything I'm going to bet. I don't normally bet finals and after going on an awesome run with totals I went into the shithouse so I may just skip everything all around.
