This time last year he was ranked around 300. At the start of this year he was ranked around 150. The only reason his ranking has shot up since then is due to his performances on hardcourts.

Whilst I thought he'd progress through at least the first 2 rounds (I had him going to the semis, just because I dislike Murray who was his potential R3 opponent!), he's played hardly any tennis at all on clay in his career.

Also, the fact that his serve, which is by far his biggest weapon is negated somewhat on clay shouldn't be a big surprise. After all, Roddick was never good on clay, even when he had a beastly forehand to go with his huge serve.

Expect him to make waves at Wimbledon though.
