With Malisse's mother recently passing away
Malisse's mother passed away a little before the Giraldo match and he clearly suffered from it losing that one in 3 sets. Should this effect my decision with Malisse vs. Golubev tomorrow? Malisse's work ethic could be gone with the recent passing or he could find some kind of newfound motivation?

If anything, he would play much better.

I had not heard of this before. Malisse was already kind of on the downswing here lately ...

I'd be very careful with this match. Everyone's been trying to gauge Malisse's mindset since his mother passed and no one on any site can come up with anything so far so the best bet may be just to stay away. Considering he faced 10BPs against that chump Bozoljac just to end up losing the match anyway in the Orleans Challenger the week before getting thumped by Giraldo, even if he's fully motivated he may simply be struggling for form.

I have a friend currently ranked around 300 who said that he played his best tennis the weeks adter his dad passed away. I can see that as you realize tennis is not everything and play much more loose.

This one is hard to cap but I think if Malisse sees a woman in the crowd who looks like his mother, he'd be motivated to win. Just my 2 cents.

dont know how malisse thinks i might take golubev here. malisse could just be too emotional and unfocused.

so many other matches. no reason to look for an edge here.
