    Dementieva retires, loss today was her last match of her career!
    wow after a bunch of injuries she calls it quits, this is a big surprise. i didnt see her speech but I hear everyone was crying. only 29 too she had a lot left

    She obviously had made up her mind to do this with the way it seems like all the players were with her for this. Can't say it was a bad decision. Her career was in a rut and you have to think she was tired of trying to figure out how to serve. Bye bye hot stuff.

                  I was surprised when I first heard this. She wasn't winning tournaments, but it's not like she was sucking. She's still a lot better than a bunch of the other women out there.

                      I think she's just mentally beat down. I don't know that a comeback is in the cards for her. Say she takes just a year off. She's 30 and rusty at that point ... she's not a Justine Henin or Kim Clijsters who both retired early in their careers and conceivable are as good or BETTER than before they retired. I think we've seen the last of her in WTA.
