Australian Open 2021 - Men's and Women's Singles Contest

For those who have never participated in one of these before:

There will be a separate contest for the men's and women's singles. This is a bracket contest that will start at the First Round of the Australian Open. The first round starts on Monday, February 8 at 11am AUSTRALIAN AEDT. Keep in mind that you'll be choosing the winner of each match from the first round until the final before the first match goes off so leave yourself some time for deciding your picks.

We will again be submitting our entries into a private pool over at The Tennis Channel but please remember that you'll need to enter their main contest pool as well if you want to be eligible for their prizes. I'll create the individual contest in the next couple of days before the start of the tournament so keep an eye out for those.

Entry fee will be 10 points for each contest and the top 10 from each contest will be paid. SBR has generously agreed to sponsor these contests again so you can pay me either in here or in the first post of the individual contest threads once they're made. Non Pros feel free to start transferring me 2 points a day now so you're paid up before it starts.

tennis is fun with crowds. Other sports I'm now okay with no fans, but tennis needs the crowd more than other sports

In tennis, you learn early on, that a very bad place to be is 'no man's land.' I guess they had success doing it their way- and I am happy for them. We could have had success doing it our way as well. Except, we had an F'd up hybrid thing going on...U.S has to lean into its diversity and embrace a Wild West mentality....In short, a country like the US with its many and varied cultures -- you aint getting everyone on the same page regardless, not these days...It takes some national identity/pride to do that, or something else - and we don't have the 'something else' either.

Quarantine Hotel worker tested positive for COVID. No matches on thurs.

Health Authorities have advised us that a Hotel Quarantine worker has tested positive for COVID-19. Those associated with the AO who quarantined at the hotel now need to be tested and isolate until they receive a negative test result.

We will work with everyone involved to facilitate testing as quickly as possible. There will be no matches at Melbourne Park on Thursday. An update on the schedule for Friday will be announced later today.

Usually have qualifiers playing, to finalize the main draw, for 2 days prior.

If no one else in hotel tests positive I expect all the main tourney players will be fine to play. Qualifiers might be questionable.

Crazy story Opti. 600 players, officials etc at the hotel & they all had to quarantine for 2 weeks!

99% of cases for the last 6 months or so have all been traced to overseas travelers.

It's a pain in the ass but with the thing pretty much under control it seems to be the only way to keep it under control. OK for now but can't do it forever.
