Mertens played the Hopman Cup for Belgium at the beginning of the year and then played at Hobart this week. She played Singles and Doubles there and won both competitions. It was a tough final against Buzarnescu with many many interrupts because of that rain. So she had to go on and off the court for several hours. After this she had to give interviews, press conference etc. and have to fly from Hobart to Melbourne. She has no day rest, because she must play today against Kuzmova who played solid in her three qualifiers. Kuzmova know the surface and can match Mertens with some self-confidence. In my opinion it will be a tough match for Mertens, but of course she is the favorite in this match. It's just a small 1 unit play for me.
