Tennis total games for the match
    Hi,

I have a doubt about this market. I don't want to get too complex and ask how bookmakers get there number from because I would think that is related to the a lot of factors but my question is easier:

So imagine a best of 3 sets match, does the total games number they use is the expected number of games the match will have if played to just 2 sets ? So as if it was the place to cut between 2 sets and 3 sets ?

No, it's the median expectation for number of games in the match. The number of expected sets is a factor in that, certainly.

Can you explain me how the median expectation for the number of games in the match is calculate ? Just a an idea more or less please, no need to go into very complex details.

I try and not to think about what the bookies will place a total at. I prefer to go off how I think the match will pan out based off what I've seen on the tape and my research before I see what the total offered was and place, or not place a wager accordingly based off whether I like it.

Even if the bookies set a total there are a lot of potential things that are not taken into account like for example the Davis Cup players are always playing for pride so even if you're down 0-2 sets like Del Potro was against Cilic you never count one out. It's happened a few times over the years and less so at the Slams.

So if I think a match will go deep into four sets or five sets I won't likely care what they set it to, i'll just place it. Especially if it's around the 41 or 42 mark.

If youve been betting on tennis long enough it's normally easier to think the way the bookies do whether its best of three or best of five. I've found that getting close to a total is not as hard as one would imagine.
