Watching one of the matches earlier the commentators were talking about how Cilic was not happy with his form when he played in Beijing and looking to change it up by coming up North to Toyko in Japan. It's certainly worked. He's showed signs of nervousness but for the most part hits it well and puts his opponents under pressure. He seems to liken the surface enough to believe he has a shot in this tournament.
He's also played, I feel IMO, better opposition then Goffin who played a guy who Nishikori retired to and was beating comfortably before he retired getting off to a slow start losing the first set 1-6, and Jiri Vesely who is also inconsistent as showcased in his match against Goffin. For a big server it's weird to see.

Personally thought he looked great against a Muller who came off some impressive wins against recent title winner Berdych that he was at times, looked like he was having fun and that's when, to me is when he usually performs his best. After retiring at the US Open in disappointing fashion, a title within reach is a great consolation just like winning Atlanta was after being kicked out of the Olympics team. Normally to me it isn't worth taking Monfils that short priced but as dangerous as he is when he's on, Kyrgios is, IMO just as dangerous. That's why Im going the other way.

More just buying high with him then anything, Zverev is getting more legit by the day but he's still young. Would be incredibly impressed if he kept his run up. Mentally maybe he's even better then Tsonga!
Plus Tsonga has a lot of points to defend here as well, as a top 15 player he's got to make some sort of a mark to defend it.
