I have Edmund winning in straights for this one as one of my picks, but will be interesting to see how Daniel presents. Also have Kasatkina on the line. I must ask why you never pick favourites though - I love a good underdog as well but sometimes taking the better player and laying the games can be a solid option.Comment -
Totally agree with you, favs are a solid option but for some reason I have always had more successful with picking dogs. I know it doesn't make sense because if I can cap "value" dogs, the opposite should apply to favs but I've just never wrapped my head around laying the games. Trust me, sometimes when nothing is going right I've contemplated doing what you're doing i.e. just taking underdogs, but I can't bring myself to do it because I know that overall, my style will work for me in the long run - and it does. One of the best lessons I've ever learnt in terms of sportsbetting was from an older guy. We were talking about betting (can't remember how we got onto it), and discussing lines ahead of the week's AFL matches. He thought a -70.5 line was great value, and I was like, 'no way, that's huge'. So anyway, he took his -70.5 and I took a -10.5 because I thought it was 'safer', and 'more achievable'. From that point forward, I was never afraid to take a massive favourite and lay huge points/games. Not to say that laying small points/games is BAD, just that often taking a massive fav with a big line isn't something to be afraid of. An example was Muguruza against Hibino. She had a -6.5 at around $2, and when I thought about it, I realised that Muguruza would have a huge advantage in every point played. Hibino would be completely outclassed, and she was. Muguruza was my -70.5 and in the end she smashed the handicap in.
