Halep vs Azarenka

Hey guys, long time reader of the forum and first time posting. Figured now is as good of a time as any.

The head to head matchup between the two, in favor of Vika 2-0, is definitely one of the reasons why she is the favorite going into the match. However, my initial gut feeling is leaning towards Halep winning this match. Halep is arguably one of the best on court problem solving players. But will this be enough to overcome the powerful and great returning Azarenka? I'm also concerned because of some physical issues Halep was dealing with in her last match with her left leg.

I keep second guessing myself as to what to fire on tomorrow. Any thoughts?

h2h is pretty much irrelevant b/c those matches played before Halep's rise to power. Form-wise, Aza seems to be serving pretty well and overall she seems to be pretty sharp from the baseline. Halep looked pretty decent at times too, but much more inconsistent overall. Both players might be nursing major boo-boos too.

Yeah I'm just now seeing that those previous matches were awhile ago. Not sure what to do about this one, maybe stay away and back Pennetta to upset Kvitova. It's forecast to be another hot day in Flushing Meadows and it'll be interesting to see if Kvitova's medical condition finally catches up to her in the weather, and against a dangerous opponent.

Just like frugalgambler pointed out, the h2h matchup makes no sense at this point. Vika's serve is more susceptible than what it used to be. No one knows what this is shaping to be but I like Halep to take at least one set here.

Halep is not 100%. She shouldn't even be here except for the
typical Sabine Lisicki errors. Halep has leg problems. Vika should pound her.

Ive seen a little of Vika lately she should be able to win simply because she's been consistent at hitting the ball deep which will give Halep problems. Vika wasnt serving well when I saw her though so she needs to do a much better job in that category.

Two players clearly struggling mentally, for sure is a Grand Slam QF and is always a big opportunity, but they are both (especially Azarenka) very experienced players and should be able to deal better with the situation.


Main conclusions of first two sets:


- Massive improvement of Halep physical condition compared to previous match
- Azarenka very erratic but seems to be the one who is showing more desire and determination to get the victory, at least she's the more expressive player on court.
