Did anyone watch Venus play yesterday? I heard that she was sick/injured/whatever, but she managed to win. Should Genie blow her of the court this afternoon?

Lmao Matty you couldn't be more wrong. The market is very aware of her form. The Australian Open is mostly forgotten.
The odds are "what they are" based almost entirely because:
1) Bouchard beat the living shiite out of Kudryavtseva 6-2 6-0. A quality player.
2) Venus struggled against *Gulp* Scheepers. And the South African was ahead in both sets and had many chances to win them.
3) Williams' fitness and "perceived" motivation.
It has next to nothing to do with the AO. The market has watched much tennis since then.
Anyway can't believe how bs your overall comment was. It's crazy that a guy who bets way too much could know so little about something so basic. And then come in here and tell people "I hope everybody in here realises Bouchard's odds are what they are because of the AO".
*Edit. And Venus played incredibly well in Dubai to take the title. And then she missed IW and has only played Miami since then.

The market has no faith in Venus and it clearly expects her to struggle. Perhaps there might be some retirement factored in too.

I am pretty sure that the fact that she is Canadian (big country with a lot of public for tennis) + cute + has had a run to the semifinals in the Australian Open has inevitably made people overestimate her a bit.
However, from what I've seen from yesterday's match, she played some very good tennis (and Kudryavtseva was terrible indeed). To me, JC's explanation of the line movement is pretty much on spot. At the opening odds, I would have probably taken Genie but I was late to catch the train.
As I do not consider myself competent about tennis or anything, I really can't say how much of a talent Genie possesses. I would like to here other people's opinions on that, though.Comment -
I grabbed Bouchard for a dime early last night . The odds are spot. These odds are more reflective on books doubting Venus capabilities more than Bouchard. If this match wasnt played in the USA, Eugenie would have been a -185 favorite. So books are giving Venus about 25 cents for the homecrowd but it may not be enough.
Bouchard is actually better on clay than hardcourts in my opinion. She uses her speed to get to a lot of balls on clay.
