ATP doesn't pay prize money to the players for retirement in Set 1. For example if Haase retires in set 1 he was gonna receive his prize money only for his second round appearance. Exception for this rule are the tournaments organized by ITF (International Tennis federation) aka The Grand Slam tournaments and ITF Futures.

I have a question. What do you make of those games where where is goes, 0-6, 6-0, 6-0......especially in womens tennis. Do they give up. are they lazy. Ive seen a bunch of these type of score lines not exactly but close to it and I always wonder if you are able to beat someone 6-0 in the first set, what happened the next 2 sets, did you just start sucking all of a sudden. Just a players point of view would be nice. I never understood that.

It depends on the situation. We saw a similar thing with Baghdatis/Hewitt yesterday. In my opinion there is not much of a difference in the quality of tennis between number 10 and number 100 in the world. Outside of Djokovic, Nadal, and Murray anyone can beat anyone. Tennis is a mental game before anything. Some players like to give up a set after they went down a break, and give 100 % for the rest of the match.
