haha I would LOVE for that to happen! You know my personality... I'm soooooo tempted to start that thread on Saturday just to see if they'd really waste their time and cash arresting me. But with my luck my next post would be me saying I'd just been bailed out of the slammer and it'd probably involve crying and whatnot. Or I'd be asking if you guys could call the jail to see if they accept Betpoints as bail

I'm all for cleaning up tennis as I hate being jacked on obviously crooked matches, etc. But when I started this thread it looked like the guy was merely live betting courtside. Yeah that'd be pretty heavy-handed of the cops but fair enough we're not allowed to do that online here so I guess I could accept that. Then it seemed he was betting at a book on lines that should've been taken down when people on here do that on sports continents away from them every day. Now we find out he wasn't even the one placing the bets?! And didn't interfere with the match at all?! That's the only reason why this is picking my ass. I don't care if he was sending that info to the head of some Russian mob. Him being arrested for that is bullshit.

yeah I wouldn't want the personal drama either really. Nice thought though

Was just having a convo with JPeavy about this and think most of us would agree it's ok this once if they are just using a dodgy law to target real matchfixers.

But sheesh, if this law is anywhere near as broad as the papers suggest, you have to have a little wonder about the ethics of the parliament that let it through. And maybe worry what the cops might choose to use it for later.

      Will you see Matt there?

That's the part that freaks me out. I don't understand how this can be taken to have "corrupted a betting outcome" which is what he was charged with. The outcome was already decided through no interference by him at all. He and his buddies merely took advantage of it. Yeah the ethical argument around that is one thing but past posting shouldn't be a criminal charge, especially when the book isn't even in this country.

If Mat's going on Saturday I bloody better see him! I had a blast with him the night of the Carlton match. Although there was a worry for a bit that he was going to get into a blue so that was quite the unexpected excitement. We went to Transport before the match and just chatted about sportsbooks and sports and gambling and life. It was so awesome to do that with someone who could understand what I was talking about and not freak out or be condescending that a female had a clue about that stuff as very few people in my real life do (at least about the first three). Lovely guy.

Fuckin amazing that the authorities in Melbourne got nothing better to do than to coddle an unknown foreign bookmaker who could easily prevent the entire situation from happening by doing a tiny bit of work. Fuckin amazing.

Must be more to this, he must be in organized crime and has been watched and now the law in place they could nab him. I doubt if you sit high in stands and a phone you would get caught betting

Interesting. I wonder....is that 10 second window on one point really that "huge" of an opportunity?
I don't bet nor follow tennis so just curious

I'd bet you Michael Jack Corbin's betting syndicate is behind this.

Had no idea this could be illegal. Would this be illegal here in the U.S? If I go to a baseball game and bet live while sitting in the stands, is there something wrong with that?
