I wonder why some of the top players even enter these small tourny's if they're just gonna fold the first round. Why not save urself the travel and effort and just prepare for the next major

Ferrer usually plays well here. Won the title last year. I think he just got outplayed. It happens.

They have to play in a certain number of ATP/WTA matches each year, or they are penalized. This is in part why there is so much tanking in the first round of smaller tourneys.

I was on XM, so I was happy to see the choke. Betting on underdogs has been pretty good for the past for days. Won on Klizan also.
Ferrer was just gearing himself up for Wimb. I dont think he tried to lose - but I also dont think he gave it his all.
