It doesn't always, though it has to be close to even odds most of the time, if we want to remain profitable. But sometimes I also know a thing or two the bookie doesn't, published odds are not necessarily accurate.

Edit: let me give you an example where totally shitty odds are worth taking. During last year's Olympics for instance, there was a bet on Betfair: will there be a new WR (women, 100m sprint)? Odds for NO = 1.15. It was basically physically impossible for any of the contestants to run anywhere close to 10.49 with legal wind, never mind better than that. This was a virtually guaranteed win, you gotta go all in. Just too bad it was Betfair, only a few thousand was matched.
