Who has the best one handed backhand discussion

After Gasquet grabbed his ninth title of his career today by winning the Sud, there has been some debate on the ATP website on whether he possesses the best one handed backhand on tour. During the last few years, we've seen a flurry of players with strong one handers which includes Gasquet, Wawrinka, Federer, Almagro, and Kohlschrieber.

Gasquet has a beautiful one hander.....indeed. But I give the the slight edge to Stan's. Stan hits his backhand flatter with minimal topspin. This generates a bit more pace than Gasquet's. Wawrinka's backhand is also a solid defensive shot. You can try to pound his backhand ten straight times and you're gonna get a strong paced shot right back at you. Federer used to have one of the best but nowadays, if you keep pounding it a few times, he'll will eventually start spraying errors into the net or long.

The display Stan put on against Djokovic was amazing in that epic semifinal match. Those were some of the best backhand shots I've seen anyone hit against the best returner in the game. In my opinion, Stan outplayed Djokovic that day.....it was unfortunate that it didnt reflect a win on the scoreboard.

Wawrinka's a class above Gasquet's imo.

Strictly just the shot ... Wawrinka over Gasquet. Gasquet's is very robotic IMO. He's very calculated and the shot to me looks rigid even in its near perfection. Wawrinka meanwhile looks silky smooth with very little effort.

Almagro may have the biggest oney on tour, he can hit that down the line winner better than anybody! Lots of mental problems with him, but the b hand is sick!

still hurts thinking about that match. stan tricked everyone, he looked like a champ, and just couldn't quite finish it, . fed and stan get my vote on the backhand too

Yep, I thought Stan was so tuned in on that match. He could have beaten Murray or Fed that day as well. I was rooting for Stan to win, he deserved it.

It came down to fitness and Djoker proved that he's the fittest player on the planet.

Yeah I agree, wawrinka can do the best winners with his BH, no doubt. But I have this problem with one-handed backheands, they seem to me really really unstable and since I always played double hander I can not fully comprehend how anyone can do as awesome shots as wawrinka with a one-hander, easily there is no precision in playing BH with one hand for me.
That being said, I really love gasquet's 1-hander, cos it is really stable, lots of spin and watching it makes you think "yea, I can put money on this guy". Unlike for example federrer lately, where I always sweat when he plays long BH rallyes.

I use a one hander when I play. I used to have a two handed backhand but there are some distinct advantages with a one hander. In long rallies, there may be a slight disadvantage. However the big advantage is that with the one hander, you can totally surprise your opponent with the better angle. It's hard to see the direction of the ball off the racquet of a good one hander. For those that master the shot, you can actually generate more pace because some people can generate faster racquet speed with that swift stroke vs a two handed.

if you include topspin and slice backhand i would say Federer by far(maybe its because im swiss!!loool) because Federer's slice is simply amazing!!!the best ever in my opinion.....Tommy Hass and Gustavo Kuerten had an amazing one also!!!.....and mine when i feel good is not bad at all....looool
