Tsonga vs Soeda & Sousa vs Murray
    Tsonga vs Soeda

    (9) pt spread
    total games 28.5

    Sousa vs Murray

    (11.5) pt spread
    total games 25

Whats the play on these two matches? So far im leaning over 28.5 and (+11.5) for Sousa.

Sousa will get destroyed. Sousa's serve is going to get picked apart by a returner the quality of Murray. By far his least accomplished surface and I kept up with his first rounder. The scoreline is deceiving because Smith had a lot of chances to break his serve and let him off the hook. Murray will keep constant pressure on him and convert those IMO. 12 is a big number, but considering the best player he played on this surface so far was Florian Mayer in Sydney and Mayer won 6-1, 6-2. Murray could easily replicate those types of scorelines and win a 6-2, 6-1, 6-3 sort of match if all is working. I don't touch these big spreads myself.

What do you think about the spread and total in Tsonga vs Soeda? Im thinking over but havent really watched much of Soeda. Is he capable of keeping the game close enough?

I think the +9 would be close. He'd have to get some lazy Tsonga in there and get a 7-5 or 7-6 set in case it is a straight sets situation which is likely more than not.

Tsonga in straight sets. Soeda won't be able to keep pace playing his third game in three days in 100F heat. Saville really gave up the game in Soeda's first round match, despite a mediocre effort from Soeda.

I'm always really wary of these ultra low totals - often the top guy realises they can't lose, takes a single break early in a set then sleepwalks the rest. You end up with a 63 62 64 type of score for 27 games.

Not saying that'll happen here, haven't thought about the matchups at all, just something to be wary of. Long term only about 10% of slam matches go under 25.5, obviously more at short odds, but surprisingly not that much more.

Tsonaga looks bad. Not even competitive in Soeda's service games this 2nd set.

And then Tsonga breaks to get back on serve.

Tsonga breaks while Soeda was serving for the set. 5-4 now. Talking about 2nd set.

murray doesnt seem like the sort of guy who wants to absolute destroy somehow, however i wont be fading.

there is no room for error on a spread like that and if the other dude holds his serve in the first game you're already under the pump, no fun to watch

Tsonga won but it wasn't easy.
