Austrialian Open Qualis Parlay: Brands/Mannarino/Arn [-108]
Brands has continued his solid early season play through qualis and looked stronger in Round 2 than he did in the opener. He goes against Marti who prefers clay, but has proven to be a tough nut on this surface. The feeling though is that if Brands can maintain his serve like he has done more the majority of his matches early on, the pressure will be on Marti to keep up. Mannarino has quietly run out to a 7-0 mark this season with a Challenger Title in Noumea to open the season. He wisely took a little breather after his title run to rest his elbow which was reportedly sore from the early activity. It has not effected him through qualis in Melbourne with two comprehensive wins. He hasn't faced a single break point. Polansky is his draw today. The Canadian has battled well through two rounds, but has a weaker service game that fails him too much. Mannarino looks confident here and sounds ready to continue his climb in the rankings. Arn takes on Mrdeza who played in an absolute shitfest against Glushko yesterday. Her serve was pathetic, but Glushko wound up being even more pathetic after the 1st set. Arm has been steady in qualis this week and generally has not looked too bad in playing a lot of quali matches in the Australian swing. She should have fond memories of the main draw from 2012 in which she made the 3rd round. Mrdeza is bidding for her 1st Grand Slam main draw and if she plays like yesterday or something close to it - the veteran should take advantage.

FYI - if you're including Berankis in your parlays today, be a little bit careful. He was about down and out against Klahn last round. Down 2-4 in the 2nd after dropping the opening set. He rallied and won in 3. The big thing though - he's already in because he qualifies for Lucky Loser status as the top ranked qualifier left. Not saying my man won't give the effort, but knowing you're already in one way or the other can change your mindset if you get down early again.

      Australian Open Qualis
      S.Johnson -135
Johnson showed no ill effects from his marathon match in his opener with a clutch double tie break win over de Schepper. His serve was rock solid and his nerve the same in the tie breaks. You have to like a kid who comes up in the big moments and Steve has done that this week. Sweeting takes a step up in class for this one after defeating the teenage WC from Australia in the last round. Sweeting for his frame still does not provide the consistent power you'd associate with a taller player. He's no mug as witnessed by his match in Melbourne last year when he had Ferrer on the ropes. That being said, Johnson for me is one of the up & comers in US tennis and provides variety and power that seem more consistent than Sweeting right now.

      Ilhan +145
Riding with the Turk again. He's prepped well for qualis and it has paid off thus far. He faces a tough test against Bemelmans who has a tight serve that can win some easy points. These two have battled multiple times as they've come up through the ranks, so there should be few surprises. Ilhan struggled last year after a good year or rising in the rankings in 2011. He rededicated himself and this is a good litmus test against a similar player who boosted his own spot with a good 2012.

Berankis is rolling. Started strong, so no worries for him. Want to see him get a good draw and cause some troubles in the main draw!

Stevie J! Straight sets Sweeting after some ball sweating in the 2nd set. Another guy I think could hassle the right person in the 1st round.

God that was one of the worst sets ever, but Arn prevails in 3 to cash the parlay and end qualis on a good note. A reminder again why I generally avoid the WTA. Fukk them hoes.
