This is the best I have ever seen him play. Saying that though makes me even mor suspicious of his play the last couple years
Davydenko is playing well

#5Really, really talented tennis player. Could easily claw back to at least top 10 if he keeps playing like he has done the past couple of matches.Comment -

#6I agree wtt, I always heard about him fixing matches and whatnot, and after losing on him several times last year swore I'd never bet on him again. For whatever reason I still bet him again this time, and I'm convinced of the previous shady play from last year!Comment -

#11Read up. Davydenko says he is the healthiest he has been in a long time. Sad that the guy is still most remembered more for match fixing - but most of the last year and a half was littered with injuries that sapped away most of his play. Let's also not over-react to the first tournament of the year -- there is a long way to go before anyone who wins or loses this week should be getting heavily backed or dodged based on this week's results.
First two weeks, very obvious that effort levels are going to vary greatly from the top to the bottom and good luck to us all figuring out who wants what. Best advice is to do some reading and see what players have done as far as off-season training. That helps you find guys like Davydenko & Baghdatis who seem recommitted to winning.Comment -

#12I played a future on Davydenko to win the Australian Open at 575 to 1. Odds at 5Dimes immediately moved to 100 to 1... and then odds taken off board completely.
As EPhan said, Davy is healthy and extremely motivated. This could be his last run to have a shot at a major. He's going to go for it and he certainly has the tools to win. He embarrased Ferrer today. Easily most impressive result of the first week of the tennis season.Comment -

#13Def. impressive play by old man but keep in mind - we always knew what kind of talent he had. This guy is easily a top 3-6 player when playing his best and easily a top 200+ when off.
I do remember even a few times last season where he just played ridiculously well and put up some impressive wins - and had the exact opposite at other times. I still doubt how far he can take this momentum into the season but he could be money once you get a close look at him early in the tournys to see what his mindset and health is like.Comment -

#15His health and fitness will be tested early in these best of 5 slams and probably won't have good draws but he looked fantastic today. When I heard him speak though I never realized he sounded like Mighty MouseComment -

#17Tough call. Books obviously putting a shit ton of stock in the win over Ferrer. I know it's a big W for him, but having him near -200 as a favorite against a guy around the Top 10 is insane to me.Comment -

#19I didn't get too see too much of the match today, so I couldn't rightfully say. I just know I wouldn't be too keen on paying that much for Davydenko in a title match against a player that rates better than him overall IMO. I always find it interesting to watch the books exaggerate prices in tennis. This is the first one we really get to see how it pans out.Comment -

#22This is what I was saying about overpaying for someone based on a few results. Match result still in doubt, but I'd much rather be riding with plus money & Gasquet in a 3rd set, winner takes all scenario. Davydenko is going to get broken sooner or later it looks like.

#25Before you do your back in dancing with joy on Davy bettor's graves Djoking...
He had the match in the bag before picking up an injury. You can't cap for that so Davy bettors got it right and Gasser backers got lucky is all.
I'm glad i just stuck with the over when he came out worse than evens. Although that may have not hit but for the injury..Comment -

#26I don't think that is an entirely accurate assessment. Davydenko led in the 2nd set and blew it. If you read the post game comments, he basically admitted that he was fatigued as early as the early part of the 2nd set - the hip issue which was worked on in the 3rd was more of the culmination of Gasquet making him work all over the court and Davydenko's body not being able to respond today from what I gathered. Davydenko never blamed a specific injury for being the turning point, he made it sound like he just got worn down by the superior player today.Comment
