People talk about " stick with your local " .. locals are more reachable and easily arrested and brought down than an offshore book

"With roughly 25 victims, one a well-known business, authorities think that the loan sharking ring netted between $700,000 and $800,000 per year."

I like the choice of wording. Reckon these degen "victims" begged for higher lines of credit.

What a waste of manpower and money from our government. We are adults let us make our own decisions weather they are the right or wrong decision its our right to make bad decisions as long as we don't hurt someone else.

let this be a lesson to all posters who fantasize about being a bookie. Cops aren't the ones that are going to just stumble on you and bust yah, it's one of the peeps you're doing business with. It's way too risky.

Booking the action didn't bother me, but the 2-3% WEEKLY interest on outstanding balances did. He put the deadbeats in a spot with only one way out---going to the feds. The guy has no one else to blame but himself. About the only ones I feel sorry for are the ones that were up when the moron got busted. They likely lost their winnings and are the true victims of this story.
