It is an example of how an A+ book handles things.

The rating for Betway(D-) is a bit generous. Anything blacklisted should not be higher than an F.

Paddy Power appears to me to have graded the fastest qualifier for the Spanish GP correctly according to its own stated rules which disregard penalties and demotions. If they used the phrase 'pole position' though I guess there is argument for more ambiguity. I see for the next race the market is called "Overall Qualification Winner".

The wager wasn't for fastest qualifier, or even qualifier winner. It was for "Who will win Pole Position".

Thing is, there is no difference between those market descriptions as in this case Hamilton was originally on pole through being the fastest qualifier, and was subsequently demoted. Now whether a good book might make some kind of an ex-gratia payment is another issue of course, especially if it appears they have chosen to reword their market descriptors subsequently.

The same issue arises if someone was disqualified after the podium presentation; all major UK books to my knowledge pay on the podium result whatever happens afterwards. There is an IBAS ruling on this for the 2008 Belgium Grand Prix where Hamilton was demoted from 1st to 3rd. I daresay there will be an IBAS ruling on this incident too in time.

http://www.ibas-uk.com/adjudCase.php?adjudID=1 lists a few principles relating to F1 betting, and the rationale in the case of finishing positions using the podium result as 'this is to give a definite cut-off so that both they and their customers know the criteria for bet settlement.'

Incidentally double result is commonly paid out on bets on UK and Irish horse racing (ie first past the post result and result after stewards enquiry), but even then if the result is amended after the weigh-in it will be ignored.

Am also affected by this issue. Bet 1$ on maldonado at 250/1. They refused to pay me 251.

Yes you are spot on, for Monaco, they changed the market as "Overall Qualification Winner". But for "Pole Position" maldonado should be settled as winner. Atleast they should do double result

I have little doubt that someone will have already taken this matter to IBAS, and that PP will in the end comply with whatever that body rules. Of course other people affected can also take this up with IBAS.
