#2Certainly a very good point the writer makes, the only thing is that it may be a bit harsh to focus on Bet365 specifically in this respect, because from what I can gather the majority of online books do exactly the same thing.Comment -

#3So effectively only around £16 of the stake Murphy handed over was 'live’, the other £34 just potentially free money for Bet365 should the bet not have succeeded.Comment -

#4True I forgot they were ante-post bets, and form what I remember one of the horses was registered in 2 races that day so was no guarantee that it would have raced in the race it did either.Comment -

#5There is a warning when you place the bet, actually just before confirmation and it stakes exactly that its subject to max payout. Happened to me last week so I checked. Was his own fault for not checkign (like I did) imo, as you get the warning.Comment -

#6. But has that always been there or is it perhaps something new they've instigated since this row has blown up?

#7I'm not sure if its new or not, it's the first I have seen it, but equally I never place such bets either. It was some wierd 10-12 horse bet that I don't normally get involved in but did. It did prompt me to look at the limits though and the only one that would effect me is a 10k max pay out on a bad line.Comment -

#8Good job he didn't place it with Paddy Power as their limit is £700k.
365 at least has clear profit limits available to view before bets are placed. Boylesports for example puts the whole responsibility for determining that their bet if successful would not exceed maximum payouts on their customers in the T&Cs.Comment -

#9definitely unethical from book pocketing the money about max effective stake.
happens all the time in the industry. T&Cs fine print should not be enough, it should simply return each exceeding part of the stake.Comment
