i am trying to get a reliable source as regards betting on european sports from an american residence.

So from what I understand in a nutshell, the actual betting by the player is not illegal, it is the bookmakers processing the financial transactions that is illegal.

There are bookmakers who will accept lodgements from American players. How do these bookmakers get the lodgements processed? What methods are available to deposit and withdraw funds?

Is it possible to get a full list of bookmakers who accept US players and also a rating on their reliability?

How confident are you that any funds held by these bookmakers are safe?

Has the us online sports betting industry been crippled or is it a case that people have moved their funds to a smaller number of bookmakers who will take their business?

Is there any legislation in the works that would legalize online sports betting in the US?

But no, US citizens are not breaking any laws by placing bets. There is a gray area full of technicalities to contradict that statement --- but the government has shown they could care less about coming after the bettors. It would be best to simply pay your taxes on gambling. Win or lose.

Is your money safe offshore? Not necessarily secure, but some are better than the next book. Any book can be taken down at any given moment, for any number of reasons. It's just a risk you'll have to take. Either move to Vegas, or move to practically any other country in the world to gamble on sports. And only play on books that do not allow US customers.

And no, sports gambling will never be legal in the US. At least, not in our lifetime.
