#4At this point, if I was a BetEd customer, i would have already made a pitch to Alex and BOL for a private bailout offer. If you could prove your balance and you were comfortable with the terms that Dozer outlined previous--you might could cut a deal.Comment -

#10BOL really can't do that. Maybe they could pull off the first one but everyone after that would be suspect and they would have no way of knowing.Comment -

#13Reply from Covers...... even funnier stuff.
I can't help what people are feeling. I'm going to get reamed for saying this, but we are doing everything we can, and it's not easy.
Frankly, the fact that people keep accusing us of being owners of betED only makes things worse. Now, we've got OUR lawyers telling us that we shouldn't be trying to contact the DOJ because that might be perceived as acting on betED's behalf rather than acting on our customers behalf.
Nice work, Calvin Ayre and others. You are really in it for the players, aint ya?
Regardless, we are still trying to at least find out the basic information.
For instance, nobody even knows how much money was seized yet. The Feds haven't released that information even though they have already started spending the money. We don't even know how much the players were owed. How could anybody promise to cover any kind of amount when the total number isn't even known?
And you appear to be assuming, wrongfully, that we have somehow profited off the collapse of betED. No, we haven't. We are actually out a large chunk of advertising revenues and arrears in this fiasco. Literally hundreds of thousands of dollars. We are reorganizing our future business model because of this. If anybody should be angry at betED, it should be us.
Let's put this situation in perspective...
Bridgestone tires were a well-regarded and highly recommended brand during the 80's and 90's. Should those advertisers and reviewers be forced to pay off the lawsuits? I don't think so, but maybe you feel otherwise.
Toyota was the highest rated car company and topped most of the automobile review sites for many years. Should those sites and companies be culpable following Toyota's quality problems that emerged last year? I don't think so, but maybe you feel otherwise.
Do we regret having had betED at #1?
Obviously, yes. But it was an unforeseeable situation.
Seriously. Everybody forgets that nothing like this had happened before! It's like a scene out of Casino. The DOJ actually ran a sting operation and entrapped them and stole the money! How could we have seen that coming? Blaming us is like blaming a car company for not having a strong enough frame after getting hit by a meteor.
I've mentioned again and again that we had solid reasons for ranking betED at #1. They were a great option for our users. They were below the radar and didn't try to attract attention. They were conservative and didn't take a lot of risks. They were smart and trustworthy. Those reasons had nothing to do with what happened.
If one of the general traditional criteria for recommending sportsbooks was "stability under the duress of a DOJ entrapment and subsequent seizure of bank accounts and domains"? Well, in that case we weren't aware and truly missed the boat and I apologize wholeheartedly.
Hindsight might be 20/20 but if we had the same facts again at the time we had them, we would still be having betED at #1.
Until we see real proof otherwise of their untrustworthiness - and I haven't seen a shred of real proof yet, only baseless rumors - I'm standing by our decision at that time.
Did our decision backfire? Hell, yes! But not every decision works. This is life.
And I still firmly believe that the true culprit here is the American government. They have the money. Yours. Ours. And betED's.
The government stole the money. Not betED.Comment -

#14I hate covers... glad they are getting this much HEAT. They didn't cover all grounds in their business dealings... they deserve it. When you showboat around and act like you have something... you end up having nothing. Now... try and cover your way out of this one.Comment -
