Go get the check, it's pretty fast from 5dimes and 5grand isn't much, it wont' trigger any government sniffing!

its all chalky plays mostly. i don't trust MLB much to play ML or total. if you have a big bankroll you play differently

You'll be fine with fedex. Takes roughly 3 or 4 business days to receive.

I don't personally recommend it, but my bank always accepts my checks. If you want 100% peace of mind, just take it to a check cashing location. $5k will run anywhere from $10-$60 in fees.

I don't know about 5 Dimes, but another of the A rated books here makes a point of stating that their check should be deposited in one's bank account and it may not be possible to get it cashed at a check cashing store.
