The way they do this tourney, the vast majority is decided in the first round. I now know the perfect strategy for next year. This year I played it safe and I'm in like 160th place, with no shot to finish in top 100 because I'm sure all the people in front of me have the top seeds with high numbers. So there is no making up ground.

The way you do this tourney is you have to focus on the first round. Use 1-32 on teams you think will lose in the first round. Use 33-64 on teams that you think will win using higher numbers assigned to better teams of course.

The first round decides it. I think over half the points are finished in the first round. Its not like other bracket contests where you get rewarded for wins in later rounds. Once the first round is done you are not going to move much.

I have richmond 43. VCU, Fla st and Lousville losing killed me.

If wisconsin beats butler it will help me a lot but it will also help most people ahead of me. Like I said the contest is decided in first round for the most part.

Well, I'm not sure I agree with the first round comment much at all. I did several brackets this year and only missed 4 or 5 games in the first round and selected my points in the Heritage contest with the same teams in mind. I was in the top 10 through the first round. I liked KState to get through the first few rounds and probably the final 8. Had them for 59 points and Wisky for only 25. That was a killer for my chances. Now I have Butler with 28 and Wisky with 25. I am currently sitting in 128th place I think. At this point it is difficult to move up. If you are in good ranking and have quite a few high point teams out there you are probably in very good shape. I had Washington with 53 points and Carolina with 60, a Washington win though less points would have been good for my standing. Had Cincy for 51 and UConn for 52, a Cincy win would have done me good. My chances to move up now are limited as I only have opportunities with Marquette 44, Florida State 45, and Richmond 31 to gain points

I agree the end of the first won't kill you. But at the end of the second round you should be in top 10 or 20 to have a chance to win.

I am in 74th with 2,371 points. I am feeling pretty good about placing. I keep jumping from in the money then out of the money, because the damn Kansas bracket is screwed me. I have Butler, Marquette, Uconn, UNC, Ohio State, Florida, Richmond ranked above what I think the average would be. I have VCU, Fl State, Kansas, and Kentcuky ranked lower than the average, but not by much, except FL state could really screw me.
