Permission for a bad line -- back up the truck?
    Chat transcript:

6:01:31 PM : Customer: i'm a big bball fan, one of your college bball lines is wrong

    6:01:38 PM : Customer: Illinois Chi 1.90 (+5)
    Wisconsin Green Bay 1.90 (-5)

6:01:47 PM : Customer: i think the line for that one should be 7 or 8

6:02:27 PM : Customer: you guys might be getting that confused with Illinois v Wisconsin

6:02:52 PM : Customer: Wisconsin green bay should def be a favourite, but im pretty sure they are 7 or 8

6:03:05 PM : Customer: i bet on it

6:03:06 PM : Customer: only small

6:03:15 PM : Customer: but i thought i should bring it to your attention

6:03:28 PM : Agent: Cheers - pls hold, and if you are correct, I might add a small freebet for you.

    6:03:38 PM : Customer: cheers

6:04:11 PM : Customer: you can void my bet if you want or not

6:09:34 PM : Agent: Thanks very much for your input, but after checking with one of our traders, they are happy with those numbers - so no changes to be made

6:09:50 PM : Agent: and best of luck with that wager

6:10:27 PM : Customer: ok thanks i might place another one

6:10:30 PM : Customer: have a good days

I didn't copy/paste, but the guy said "i thought you might, good luck" before i clicked out

Pinnacle have the line as Wisconsin Green Bay -8 against Illinois Chicago. Pinnacle also have Winsconsin -5 against Illinois. My book has both games listed as -5.

My questions is: have I fulfilled my obligations to bring (what I consider to be) a bad line to the attention of the book? I am nervous that the book might take a shot at me here.

Also, what is an acceptable amount to bet on this line? I would be happy to bet it unhedged up to 2k, or unlimited with hedging. I normally bet between $200 - $500 on bball lines that I like there.

seems to me you did all you could
good luck with it and you have every reason to expect them to honour it after that regardless

Depends on the book i guess, but there is never a guarantee...they could just say management decision (you talked to a clueless CS girl prolly) and similiar, after voiding the bets.
I might hit them for a nice amount, but would wait with betting the other side at Pinny in case they void it. So ofc you risk that the line will get worse at Pinny, but...i would never arb it right away, too risky.

Thanks - and by above when I say "acceptable" I mean what is likely to not piss off the book too much

          oh no!
never ever arb a bad line
you shouldn't even take one knowingly
and I wouldn't be backing up the truck on this one either despite what they told you

Fyi, I was told "after checking with one of our traders, they are happy with those numbers" - could they still invoke a "management decision"?

Dude i said i would wait, and that means till close to game time...they cannot cancel it after the game started. I know that about bad lines, but we are talking about a line that the book is happy with here, no need to teach me

after that exchange, I might feel comfortable placing my normal size wager on the game, nothing more..

hey mate, even though it was your response I posted my response in, surely you realised it was directed towards the OP?

I was actually supporting your point, not attempting to teach you anything

Plenty of books have canceled "bad lines" after a game starts. To the OP, I've seen threads here before where a book said in chat that the line was ok and then later the book said the chat person was wrong and the bet canceled. So I wouldn't assume your bet would be allowed to stand, and I definitely wouldn't arb it.
