Okay, let me rephrase this.
Do you need to be a member of the hotel to bet?

No you dont have to be staying there to bet, if you lay a large bet down they may ask you to sign up for a players tracker card which is free. As for the downtown/strip books i like ceasars and the hilton and the Lagasse Stadium in the palazzo

Lagasse is nice! I'm off to Vegas on Monday staying in the Monte Carlo which I've never stepped a foot inside before? Does anyone know if their sportsbook is halfway decent?

Its a small uninspiring book in the back of the casino. The one positive here is that its right next to the brew pub which is a solid place to eat/drink.(although I'm not sure if they brew their own beer there any more)

Nice I might have to check out the brew pub and go across the street to Lagasses or next door to Ceasars for the book.

this... I stayed at the Venetian for a week back in September and nice little walk to Lagasse... but pretty sweet. I've been in Venetian sportsbook, Palms sportsbook, Caesars, Bellagio... honestly - they're all pretty kickass. Especially if you just want to kick back, drink or don't, watch games, and book plays / cash tickets right then and there. I know at Venetian I was getting free drink tickets with every bet I booked. Just watching all the games is a bettors / sports enthusiasts dream...

the Venetian drink is cool when having a bet but atmosphere not that great - but at the time the drink was worth it

You have loose definitions of "across the street" and "next door".

The pub is awesome, they do not brew their own beer anymore but have 40 - 50 beers on tap. They have tons of TVs, and the flatbread pizza is excellent
I also really like the M sportsbook

In my opinion the M has the best sportsbook in Vegas....however it is also located ten miles from the south end of the Strip.

to answer your question lets use the normal 10% vig
1. to bet 10 on team A you need to lay 11 with the sports book
2. when team A wins the bet you win 10 + get back the 11 you layed.
unless you are playing 10k and winning 100k they wont think twice about you.
