I know Matchbook has no limit but I can't get money in there.

don't take this wrong, but if that's all you can afford to bet maybe you should look for another hobby. Just an idea. Penny poker you would actually make more money and get plenty of entertainment for your money. You can buy into $2 no limit, or play limit for like 5c blinds. I really think that would get you more entertainment and you would be guaranteed to make a few bucks at those limits. Try poker stars or get rakeback at fulltilt, or even better sign up at True poker which is the same network as Bookmaker and DSI so you have plenty of bad players at low limits. AS for $1 sports bets I think you'll lose money and get frustrated, and how much entertainment can you get watching a 3 hour game when you only have a buck riding on it.

Just trying to give you some honest advice, we've all been poor and starting out at one time or another so don't feel bad. I just think poker will give you more bang for your buck and you'll make money, not get rich but it's always fun to be able to play at any time of the day and make money even if it's only a few bucks.
