I don't remember the last time that I have seen such small markets (a few hundred dollars on each side) for NBA games. How many major market makers are on MB? Are there credit issues there?
Where are the Matchbook market makers?

#4Seems that a good portion of the live nba games are basically empty throughout the game. Was trying to get some offers up for the spurs game yesterday and it looked like I was the only one trying to bet itComment -

#6I tried to wire in approximately 10k about a week ago and they claim they have not received it at their German bank I was instructed to wire it to. Perhaps others are having similar issues getting money on to the site. For the bigger market makers I would assume that they wire their money in in much larger amounts.
Hopefully this is an issue they get resolved soon. Has anyone else had problems wiring money to Matchbook recently? If so how did the situation resolve itself. Currently I have my bank putting a trace on the wire, but I have to tell you I am a little nervous about where this money could be. What do you guys think?Comment -

The answer to your "stupid" question (which, IMHO, is not stupid at all) is, well, yes and no . . .
A narrow definition of "market maker" might be someone who posts both bids and offers (generally fairly consistently) on the same game at the same time.
However, when players post an offer on only one side of the game, they are essentially making a one sided market.
And for those who take offers, they are, of course, "price takers".
On Matchbook, one can be a market maker using their software (found in the upper right area of any game's listed runners) by: "Enter a base value and your desired vig %, and MarketMaker will generate bet requests for both sides of your selection."
I have played around with it for very small bets but this approach usually doesn't work for me because I usually have a fairly strong opinion (not always right!) of which team will prevail and bet accordingly.
Good luck!

#16If my still pending bank wire transaction from a major US Bank is any indication it is not so easy. At this point I have a trace pending on my wire that I put in with my bank today. Matchbook said they still had not received the wire. I confirmed my information with them and copy and pasted that information to my bank when the wire was initiated. Matchbook now tells me not to worry because wires that do not arrive will simply go back to the bank of origin. Easy for them to say it isn't their 9K that is floating around out there.
At any rate I don't think I will try to send them another wire. What do you guys think about this situation?Comment -

#17It's too late now but if it were me, I would send a wire with a small amount first and make sure everything goes smoothly with that before sending larger amounts, especially to a gambling site. Hope everything works out OK, I'm sure it will.sbrComment -

I don't blame you for being concerned.....Must be a screw up on the sending banks end.
I don't think you'll have a problem getting your money back, its just a matter of when.
Keep us informed on the situation....BOL albo gator...Hopefully this situation is resolved soon.Comment -

#20Having difficulties making deposits affects the average bettor but the MMs who put thousands on both sides with a penny spread operate on a different level. I doubt that they are required to have deposited 100% of the funds they have in play. The exchanges need the MMs more than vice versa. I think MB's new mgmt is restricting credit after they have been burned in the past.Comment -

#21You can have your bank fax the form to Matchbook, and let them fill it out and fax it back. This is what I did, and it worked well. Apparently there is some variation in what number etc. goes where so it's easy for a bank person to make a mistake when filling out the bank wire transfer form.
BTW, since the wire or the fax doesn't go to something called "Matchbook" and since the money doesn't go to Antigua or such suspicious place you don't have to worry about throwing up red flags to the bank. Just have a story ready about why you need to get some money to Europe.Comment -
