Some book has left a line up even if the game has gone off

This is what is referred to as taking a shot at a book most likely the book will fire back a shot at you and list the wager a loser if it loses and if it wins it will be a cancelled wager.

Not much of a fair practice but a player betting a game after it has already started is not very fair either.

Understand, but isn't it their fault for leaving it up?
Should I be on the honor system and tell them what happened
and try to have them re-credit my account?
Exactly what I will do as I don't want to burn any bridges!

If you want to bet it, call it in. Tell them "this game has started. Can I still bet it?" If they say yes, you have action and a recorded phone call.
