Bank wire question - Intermediary bank?

I received bank wire instructions that included an intermediary bank, a beneficiary bank, and a final beneficiary.

I have never seen before anything related to an intermediary bank. Usually it is just a beneficiary and final credit to, and have never had any problems. My form doesn't even have space to put in an intermediary bank.

Is this information necessary? If I just ignore that, will the wire not go through?

I assume this is for international wire transfer, if so, you want to go to your bank and give them ALL the information you have. Find someone at the bank that knows exactly what you have and all the terms and what to do with it. If they don't know, goto another bank, and find the information. Dealing with small town/small banks, they will sometimes freak out & contact the government (i'm not kidding) so I would recommend a big boy like Wells Fargo/US Bank/etc, that understands just because 9/11 happened, business is still done around the world.

if you don't mind, how do bank wires work? i'm looking at setting up more books and using bank wires as opposed to other means, what are fees involved as well, I'm assuming payouts are easier through bank wires because they go directly back in to account without having to clear restrictions with possible check stuff? thanks a lot

Expect to pay intermediary fees of $10-$20 per wire.

The fees that the intermediary bank charges should be higher than your bank's charge
