I recently joined MyBookie.net, which claims to be a free version of its real-money sportsbook, MyBookie.ag. The site says that users don't make cash deposits and instead are given 500 "play credits" to start with. Supposedly, if you can grow those credits to an unspecified amount by winning, you can redeem them for prizes. I actually heard about this site on a local sports talk radio ad, but I can't find ANY info on it from an external source such as this site.

Here's the problem I've encountered: If you go to the member shop page of the website, it gives vague descriptions of prizes (NFL jerseys, tickets, etc.) but no specific amount in credits required to redeem them. There's also supposedly contests you can compete in with other players for cash prizes, but again, the description given on the site is very vague and unclear.

I've tried to contact customer service via email but have had little luck getting an actual response. I've also tried calling the number listed on the site multiple times but have not been able to reach a rep. Seems very odd, and it's led me to wonder if this is a legitimate operation. It says somewhere on their site that they make money through advertising alone, but I don't know.

Does anyone know anything else about this site? Seems like it could be a neat idea in theory with not having to deposit real money, but I'm just not sure it's legit.

I heard one of their ads during Dan Patrick Show yesterday. I'm wondering if its actually more of a runaround attempt to get people to google them and get to their real money sports betting site.

That was one of my theories as well. They can’t advertise a gambling site in the U.S. so maybe this is their loophole? It would be cool if something like this could be legit for those of us who aren’t big money players. But the site seems to conveniently omit a lot of details.

Its like FullTilt and Pokerstars back in the day. Fulltiltpoker.net all free money but most people would just find fulltilt poker and find the real money site which had both play money and real money

They could.......but that's the fastest way to get the attention of people you don't want coming after you. Had the poker websites not advertised every 5 seconds on ESPN or had a million poker shows running with the name on as sponsors, UIGEA wouldn't have been pushed through. Had Fan Duel and Draft Kings not been 75% of the advertising during NFL games a few years ago, they wouldn't have faced the scrutiny of the AGs of a lot of states.

In Wolf of Wall Street, Jordan didn't come under the radar of the FBI until a feature was published on him in the magazine.

I'm sure some networks won't turn away their money if offered. I'm sure many do decline though out of caution(when's the last time there was a gun ad on a major channel outside of maybe a hunting/sportsman channel), but it's inviting unwanted attention along with the attention you want from potential customers.

The thing is they say you can win prizes by winning enough credits. But then when you look at their store, there aren’t really any instructions on how to redeem prizes. There’s also no price listed.

I’m going to attempt to contact customer support again. Will post here if I’m able to find out more.

I was able to reach customer service today and the rep was ... weird about it to say the least.

I called the number that’s provided for the free site, mybookie.net, and it ended up just being the customer service center for the real money site. The rep asked for my account number. When he realized my account number was for the free site, he put me on hold, spoke to his supervisor, and then told me that they don’t do customer service for mybookie.net. When I asked why not, he seemed to get nervous and didn’t give me an actual answer. (other than “my supervisor said so”)

So yeah, it’s pretty obvious to me that this isn’t an actual site where you can win prizes and they’re clearly just advertising it as a runaround to get people to use the cash website. Kind of shady.

A lot of the "prizes" I saw offered where "Mybookie" branded gear, which "conveniently" didn't have .net at the end. I have no plans to sign up for the site so can't tell you how it would work any further, but it seems from what you say this is just an attempt to draw people to the actual sports book site.

That's pretty shocking, really. You don't see ads for sportsbooks anywhere, and MyBookie isn't exactly a household name like the Bovadas and Bookmakers of the world. So it seems to me like they're taking a big risk to put their brand out there. Not so sure it ends well. Also, the whole .net thing is really questionable and shady from a marketing perspective, and it makes me want to stay away from the real-money site.

I saw an ad on NBCSN today and they are very quiet about the .net part but make sure you know "Mybookie" so they clearly want you to google them and find the real money site.
