Every Sunday WSEX offers a $5k VIP freeroll poker tournament. Last Sunday 250 people played in the the tournament ($20 in equity per person). You become a VIP by (among other things) playing smaller $1 buy-in single table satellites where the top 3 players gain a VIP entry. Assuming it takes about 3 tournaments to gain a VIP entry, you are basically paying ~$3 for $20 in equity in the bigger tournament. Good for people who either really like poker and/or have a lot of time on their hands.
