It has cost me $1 to make a transaction into a sportsbook. I load my card with **, and that cost $4.50.

You can load the card from your checking account. ******** has instructions on how to set it up once you log in to their website. There is no fee for loading your card that way.

From looking at this there are monthly fees of $9.95 or is there a way around this.

Well I guess the $9.95 fee was for the "Fee Advantage Customers."
It looks like nobody is charged a $9.95 monthly fee, just as michael777 said if you are a "Pay as you Go Customer."
Seems similar to other prepay cards which cost more to load, so if there is NO Monthly fee of $9.95 this is a good deal.

Anyone know if they verify the social security number you're required to provide ? Do they use the SSN to do any reporting ?

They do verify the SSN but they don't use it for reporting, just don't use ******** savings or direct deposit. You can't withdrawal to them only deposit so it is a non issue.

Yes, it's like a real credit/debit card. You can charge with it or withdraw from an ATM.

The $9.95 per month thing is useful only if you are going to do more than 10 charges a month from the card. They charge you $1 per transaction if you aren't a "fee advantage" customer.

One annoyance you have to watch for is they will sometimes not clear a pending charge automatically when the transaction is posted. I.E. Lets say I deposit $100 at VIP.com from my ******** card. They do a pending authorization and then the real transaction is posted 3 days later. BUT, sometimes the pending transaction won't clear when they post the $100. And then you have to call them to clear it. It's very annoying and has happened to me 3 or 4 times in the last 2 years.
