Could someone explain deposit bonuses to me?

I am new to this so apologies for the naivete... I put a small deposit into Betonline.ag and was given a 100% match. Each time I make a bet using the match money, this is what happens: If I lose I lose the amount I bet. If I win I get the winning part of the bet added to my "real" money that I actually posted up. But the amount I bet just disappears. So unlike say a wager where one wold bet 55 to win 50 and get back 105 if you are successful, I only get 50 if I am successful. Is that how it's supposed to work?

There is some huge rollover requirement which I don't see how it could ever be met since most of the fp money is already gone after a few wagers.

Unless they say cash bonus then it is free play and works like you said. It’s beneficial to get plus odds on free play bets. Google it or search this forum for like free play strategy. I don’t think Betonline allows parleys on free play tho.

the idea with bonuses is the books wants to make the rollover hard to reach. a good strategy is to deposit a small amount, get a bonus and meet the rollover quickly. if you lose then you can re-deposit with a new bonus. if you win you just keep playing with money that is already yours since rollover was met.

by depositing with a larger amount for your types of wagers and finding it hard to reach the rollover, it forces your hand into bigger bets or more patience. most react with bigger bets they don't normally do and eventually this catches up to them and they lose.

That is how it's supposed to work if the bonus is a free play. Also in some cases, if your bet pushes then you lose the free play entirely (betting the free play on -3 and the team wins by 3). I'm not a fan of free play bonuses. Sites like bookmaker will give you a cash bonus, so if you win a bet, you will receive what you wagered also. And the free play doesn't have anything to do with the rollover, that's the amount that you need to bet in total until you can withdraw anything. Also usually the smaller number of the wager counts towards the rollover. If you have a 1k rollover, you can't just bet 1k on a -1000 favorite and consider the rollover met (only the $100 winnings with go towards the rollover). An 100% bonus is quite valuable, so the rollover will be high (like 15x your deposit).

Yes that is correct, with a cash bonus, the amount bet would remain in your account, but this is why it is called a freeplay

Sorry, cut myself off there....the freeplay means you get a free bet only, with a cash bonus, the bet amount remains in your account. At Betonline, the rollover should disappear if you lose all of the money deposited and your account balance plus any freeplay remaining goes to zero...if the rollover doesn't reset contact Cs and they will reset it. At that time you would be able to redeposit and get another freeplay. Obviously if you are doing well, your money would accumulate, and eventually the rollover would be met.
