Funny how little regulation seems to do to benefit players in the end eh?

Brokers like asianconnect88.com and premiumtradings.com probably the easiest option.

Why are they pulling the plug on Australia?
I would hope they would be getting into more markets, not pulling out from some.

May be the same reason they booted out Canadians 3 years ago.
Although they never explained that either, still a mystery.

Australia govt been trying to boot all non-locally-regulated books from the market.
I'd guess either Matchbook sees some benefit in not flouting the Aussie laws any longer, or a Matchy executive wants to live in Australia.

Why is it so hard for operators in this industry to tell the truth?
All Matchbook will say is "commercial reasons following review of licensing framework"

That's basically saying "its expensive for us to get an Aussie license so we're not going to do that because we don't have enough clients there to make it viable."
As Optional mentioned, simply open an account at 1 of the reputable agents and you'll have a Matchbook account again (at 1.25% commission).

I suppose that's an option but I really don't want to have bet in other currencies.
Also looks like there are transaction costs and one needs to use Skype?
Currently I pay no deposit or withdrawal fees and only 0.75% commission on most of my Matchbook bets.

You don't have to use Skype, they can give you a sub account.
But you will need to use a VPN if not placing bets over Skype.
You can wire deposit with them but bitcoin is their preferred currency.
If you deposit by bitcoin it is converted into US$ or Euro or whatver at the time it's credited. SO you are not betting in bitcoin currency.

Ok, thanks.
But Sportmarket is looking a better option for me.
Any known issues with them?

My understanding is that US$ is not an option, and betting over skype is available but the website is also useable (with a vpn)
The main inconvenience being having to bet in Euros.

I used them in the past, quick good service and got paid...but changed to Premiumtradings because of the small cashback they offer on all turnover.

Check out Fairlay....many same match makers have scripts tied in from Matchbook to fairlay offerings esp in UK horse racing and usa sports. they have excellent odds and instant BTC payouts plus Zero Commissions

No real surprise that the lawmakers didn't forsee the consequences of their shortsighted policies:
I hope it blows up in their face and only affects non-intended targets like this.
Been playing poker at Crown this week and surprised just how many Australians think they can no longer play poker online anywhere any more as well... as PokerStars banned Aussies as a result of this too.
So it stops NZ TAB use, and blocks the main legal poker site Aussies want to use... but has zero effect on most of the actual targets. Pinny hasnt even reacted, which is a surprise.

I signed up with Sportmarket early last week after I was booted from Matchbook.
Pros:
Access to Matchbook, Pinnacle, SBOBet, Betdaq, IBC current odds
Commission on Matchbook 1.8% and Betdaq 1.2% (both on wins only)
AUD currency account
Cons:
1% fees on Skrill deposits and withdrawals
bids retried for only 1 minute before lapsing (but 24 hours for soccer!)
support (including result settlements) appears to be available only during Malta business hours - not ideal if betting on US sport
bet values seem to be subject to constant currency conversion as they keep varying from time of placement
somewhat confusing software platform and their accounting is very very untidy with bet summary numbers varying to those carried forward to the account balance page.
They do also offer to set you up with accounts with Matchbook. That could be something I'll move into so that I can place orders for better odds which won't lapse after one minute.

Hareeba, any update on your experience?
If still not happy, I would try AsianConnect. I've been with them for a couple of weeks now.
Pro:
Exact same platform
Withdrawals (within their working hours) take 10-30min and are in Bitcoin. My balance is in Euros and the exchange takes a couple minutes but generally the rate has been very fair.
Only con for me is that my balance is now in euros, but it's and easy exchange rate to get comfortable with.

My guess would be no. I didn't because I'm not considered a new customer.

Overall, quite satisfied with Sportmarket.
Now that I've learned a bit more about the way they record bets, my earlier complaints aren't so much of an issue.
Some settlements do appear a bit slow but most are reasonable. Commission debits can be up to a couple of days after the event though.
I've been told that they are working on improvements which aren't too far away.
I did ask about getting a dedicated Matchbook account but apparently that isn't possible yet. They said to ask again in about a month's time.

Well sad to say the end has come for my very long and, until recently, very satisfactory association with Skrill (Moneybookers).
A shame that they themselves didn't bother to inform me but all the accounts I used them for to transfer funds to and from have now advised me that Skrill no longer allows transfers from or to Aussies.

There aren't any that officially accept US clients. You can get an account at Matchbook and some Betfair clones through a few agents if you want it really badly.
