Let's put it this way how easy this card is... practically anyone can send funds to your Bitpay card from any Bitcoin address. The key is... YOU MUST MATCH EXACTLY THE AMOUNT IN BITCOIN THAT BITPAY WANTS.

I can't stress this enough... because... 1 tiny number off... delays the transaction... sh#$ hits the fan. Highly recommend to copy and paste for accuracy. Shoot... I copy and paste... and still triple check. Again, number must be EXACT.
thanks for explaining, the amount and address and accuracy I understand that part.

the reason I was asking about the wallet and card connection - I did a test and sent a few dolllars from coinbase to my bit pay wallet. Now I don't know how how to transfer it to my bitpay debit card

I had the Bitpay app on my phone for like a week. I downloaded it hoping there would be some form of an advantage? I didn't see a huge advantage... and I don't like to have a million apps on my phone... so I deleted it.

Worst case scenario... there has to be a way to send from your Bitpay Wallet to anyone correct? If you wanted to send Bitcoins from your Bitpay Wallet... to your Bitpay Card... why don't you just generate the amount you want to send at the Bitpay Card webpage.... make sure you get the correct Bitcoin amount and Bitcoin Address... then send from your Bitpay Wallet?

It's just an idea... again... that's your worst case scenario. I don't remember if there was a way to transfer from Bitpay Wallet to Bitpay Card directly? I would imagine there is a way... but I'm not 100% sure.

              I got my bitpay card.

So if I have funds in bitcoin, but 0 funds in dollars, I still just swipe my card and it converts the bitcoin to the dollar amount and that’s that?

No, you must load your bitpay card first. Login and click add funds and it will give you the btc addy and amount in btc to send

Was going to load my card today but the price is way off.... or maybe they changed the source of btc price to a more favorable rate for them...not sure.

usually when i send from blockchain wallet, its very close in price... for example: if i load $500 and i send from blockchain Im usually sending $501 or something very close...

Today I went to load $750...and when i entered btc amount in my wallet, it was $773

canceled it, gonna hope its just a bug or something.... not very cool if this is the new norm tho

any chance that the IRS would go after customer data of Bitpay Card holders as they tried with Coinbase?

If not, the card seems like a no brainer as opposed to using a bank.

                        thanks

It seems rather likely. Whether they will succeed is a different question.

Is it ok to withdraw from fivedimes to blockchain to Bitpay card? I'm looking to move $5-7k? What fee range should I expect?

That's exactly how you should do it.

And now is a good time as the price seems to be on an uptick, so any fees might be offset anyway.

transfer times are quick and optimum fee is down to $2.30 right now as well.

That's an excellent question. While there's no 100% risk free way of monetizing bitcoin (except, God forbid, by paying our taxes -- a fate so unbearable it doesn't merit discussion), Bitpay is likely to be pretty far down the list of targets of interest to the IRS because it generally only shows "one way traffic," from BTC to dollars.

What the IRS wants to do is match up purchases of BTC in one column with sales of BTC at a profit in a second column, to show the realized income Alice and Bob didn't report on their taxes. Since Bitpay doesn't have that kind of two way traffic, but the exchanges do, the exchanges are likely to bear the brunt of the war, at least for now.

There's also promising news. There's two crowdfunded efforts underway to open Bitpay type services offshore: one in Liberia and the other in Luxembourg. If they get up and running, I'll be their first client.

Are you saying it does not matter what details you give them?

Sounds a bit risky if a problem comes up and they do want to ID you later in order to release funds.

It depends on their supply of cards. My first card just said "Preferred Customer," then my second card had my name on it, and my current card's back to "Preferred Customer" again.

If you sign up with an alternative name, post and let us know how that went. I can't remember sending any ID stuff to Bitpay, but that was a couple years ago now; their KYC stuff might've changed since then.
