This is what I was asking about. There's a normal bitcoin miner fee to send from the wallet to the card. But then there's gotta be another charge for using the service. Otherwise why could I only xfer 6.92 of the available 11.40 in my bitpay wallet to the card? Also this is the 1st transaction I made in a month so definitely no load limits reached.

It wants to make sure you have enough for the fee....many of the wallets are now using a "send max minus fee button"....try refreshing....I know what you mean....seen it before

Do you know what the limits are?

Pretty sure both 11.4 and 6.92 are over the limit.

How Much Money Can I Load onto My Card? What Is My Daily Spending Limit?

        For US Residents:

The card has a maximum balance of $25,000. You can load up to $10,000 to your card per day and spend up to $10,000 per day.

For cash withdrawal transfer limits, view your Fee Schedule.

I should have clarified those numbers were in US dollars. It only let me xfer $6.92 out of the $11.40 I had. And the miner fee was only about $2.

So would it be better to bypass the bitpay wallet, don't use the app and just use the web on my phone to make an invoice and then pay it with another wallet?

Totally different. Bitpay's ownership group is independent of the Coinbase/GDAX ownership group.

FWIW, I love Bitpay. For the last year I've used crypto, via exchanges to Bitpay, to fund every single aspect of my life: I pay rent with crypto, I go out on crypto, I buy groceries with crypto, etc. If I didn't worry about a tax problem down the road, I'd leave 100% of my salary -- less the maxed out 401(k), of course -- in an investment account.

Crytopay offers a debit card. Is it the same as Bitpay? I'm unfamiliar with all of this and I'm trying to get started. Any help would be appreciated

deleting this post, since earlier post explains why I was limited to $15k, I had a balance of $5k and there's a limit of $10k per day I only knew about the $25k limit and thought my account was limited. So I can load more than $15k just not more than $10k per 24 hours...SBR always great place to learn something new

If you live outside of the U.S. I'd recommend XAPO, the cards even work in the U.S. but they can't ship them here. They are one of the best companies in Bitcoin so I'd trust them even more than Bitpay personally. I don't have any idea about crypotpay so can't comment. There are other cards out there if you're not happy with Bitpay.
My only complaint about Bitpay is not being able to send my entire bitcoin balance, I have to set a dollar to load rather than just dumping all my coins at whatever price they are offering. Otherwise it works great.

I don't recommend going all in, diversification is good. However there is a company offering a Bitcoin IRA where you can even see your coins on the blockchain but the company holds the private keys. There's also a bitcoin trust that sells shares in the pink sheets you can buy with your IRA, the fees are high and the going price is always above market price, but you should be able to buy it in an IRA. I know 401k you are limited in choices and crypto not an option, and obviously maxing out any match from the company is smart. Anyway if you wanted some of your retirement in IRA to grow tax free there are options and you can open one even if you have a 401k. As someone who rode out the bear market of 2014 to early 2016 I can just say be ready for bumpy ride to the top.

I got a xapo card to Costa Rica. It took a month and they apologized for the delay so they refunded the cost and DHL fees.

Ok, I'm old school but a newbie on bitcoins.
so correct me if I'm wrong. But this is how I understand how this works.
to ask for a payout via sportsbook by bitcoins - it goes to your wallet first ( for example - block chain) then it goes to your bitpay debit card?
Also, What are the approx fees? Because I couldn't understand why I was charged $13 to purchase a $9.95 debit card, I know all this sounds simple to you guys, but I still am learning the ropes of btc.

You sound like you understand correctly.

The fees should be 15-30 cents per transaction. Some people here say they have been using $1+ as they think it will ensure a faster transfer during peak periods. I have not found this to be needed myself. 50 cents is probably the most I have paid.

There is a formula based on the physical size of the transaction that doesn't make a lot of intuitive sense to the new user.

Easy rule of thumb is use double what the blockchain.info/wallet suggests as the fee.

I have no idea why you sent $13 for a $9.95 charge but you must have chosen to send that amount? Or made the fee very high manually maybe? Or maybe there was state tax on the 9.95?

No one else has mentioned being charged anything unexpected before.

Maybe you think it is $13 as it says that now in your blockchain wallet as the value sent? Which changes with the current value of bitcoin.

When I bought a bitpay card ( which hasn't arrived yet) I had to buy bitcoins from coinbase. With a dollar approx fee. And used the coinbase money to buy the card. Hopefully, I'll figure all this out soon LOL

is there anyway to put a password on "bitpay" windows desktop for when you first open it . it just seems to automatically open my wallet as soon as i double click on the client.

Great thread with lots of good info. Only thing that continually was pissing me off reading it was the people bitching about fees that range $5 or less. If you are really moving around thousands a couple dollars here and there shouldn't mean squat.

I think the forex rate is one of the best reasons to use it. Posters have been told they use the mid point of bid/sell on Bitstamp with no additional fee.

Whatever they use, there hasn't been a single mention of any disappointment with the rate or fees.

                                                              1) bought BTC on Coinbase then > Blockchain Wallet

                                                                  1. Blockchain (Or whatever) to BitPay card

                                                                  Activate card... and log in.

Enter desired amount and then click continue

Bitcoin Address will appear. Send the bitcoin to that address.

Also keep in mind the EXACT BITCOIN AMOUNT. MUST SEND EXACT NUMBER.

Bitpay card will convert it to USD.

one more question I'm doing a trial testing for coinbase and sent a few dollars to the bitpay wallet, how do I transfer it to the bitpay debit card? Is there a fee for transferring bitpay wallet to bitpay debit card? Thanks.

I don't. I like to keep things simple. When I first activated the card many months ago... didn't need a bitpay wallet.

Let's put it this way how easy this card is... practically anyone can send funds to your Bitpay card from any Bitcoin address. The key is... YOU MUST MATCH EXACTLY THE AMOUNT IN BITCOIN THAT BITPAY WANTS.

I can't stress this enough... because... 1 tiny number off... delays the transaction... sh#$ hits the fan. Highly recommend to copy and paste for accuracy. Shoot... I copy and paste... and still triple check. Again, number must be EXACT.
