Talk to me about Nitrogen/Bitcoin book
I just deposited for the first time using bitcoins. I have one question, how the heck do you convert your bitcoin balance to US dollars to make your plays? Is there a calculator somewhere or do you just get used to using bitcoins so the decimal places are no big deal? 1.2232444323 is insane when your just trying to bet 30 clams. Any info would be appreciated.

Just google Bitcoin to usd , price will show up instantly. Agree the decimals are annoying. For 30 bucks guess you just need to keep a calculator nearby

Thanks Speculator, I just wanted to know that I wasn't in the minority with the annoying decimals. The google calc is fantastic

bitcoin balances should be converted into whatever currency you chose to begin with

I think not doing that will scare some players away

              1.2232444323 = $275

Be careful of the decimal point placement as well if they are using fractions of BTC... maybe thats what happened with you? You were thinking of 1.2232444323 mBTC or one of the other units.

The BTC system is like using DOS and people really want a windows style GUI to use it.

Yeah, I didn't see it either. And there's nothing like an announcement on the site which it seems like there would be.

They don't have anything up now but it will be up at game time. Right now live betting is just for the NBA.

They had live betting for PacMan/Mayweather. I'm hoping they have it full time for the NFL.

Just made my first deposit using bitcoins to 5Dimes, string of numbers that you need is crazy to get it all situated but all in all not too bad. I really liked the Nitrogen book but the baseball lines weren't quite competitive enough. The ease of deposit there is a plus and I didn't mind the layout of the site (feels kind of bovada ish). Hopefully I will be able to report on a payout with bitcoins from 5dimes .

Is nitrogen quick to limit people or are they okay with pros? I'd like to get a feeling of how they compare to other books in this regard.

                                          thanks

They haven't done it yet. The only thing they'll get mad about is using multiple accounts but I haven't heard of any problems at Nitrogen. There have been some problems at other bitcoin books with multiple accounts.

Thanks Raiders. My big questions now are about bitcoin wallet security. Do you back up your wallet(s) in multiple places offline?
                                                  I was reading this: https://bitcoin.org/en/secure-your-wallet

This in particular caught my eye "Some wallets use many hidden private keys internally. If you only have a backup of the private keys for your visible Bitcoin addresses, you might not be able to recover a great part of your funds with your backup.
Does this apply to blockchain.info or circle?

Any tips on security would be much appreciated.

I use two factor authentication for my blockchain.info account. When I log in I'm required to enter my password plus a generated 5 digit code that I get as a text message.

When you create a blockchain.info account, they will give you a long phrase. Write down the phrase and you can use it to recover your account.

I never keep any money in a Circle/Coinbase/Localbitcoins account. I've used those accounts to purchase bitcoins, but then transfer to my blockchain.info account. I use multiple blockchain.info accounts.

Some people use a flash drive to keep their bitcoins off line (cold storage) as opposed to online (hot wallet) .

I keep my wallets online and use 2FA. Fortunately, I haven't had any problems. When I sell I have been going through localbitcoins.com and most of the time through Paypal. You may be able to get a little over market value using Paypal. Sometimes I've done it in person.

In the past I was using Coinbase to buy and sell until they closed my account. If you want to use Coinbase then you want to move coins through a mixer such as https://bitmixer.io although I'm not going to recommend any mixer as far as being safe.

                                                                      1) You have a bunch of dollars in book A that allows bitcoin withdraws
                                                                      2) you withdraw coins from book A straight to your account at Nitrogen or another bitcoin book
                                                                      3) when you have more then you want in nitrogen, transfer it back to book A (or another one of your regular books that accept bitcoin) which then converts it back to $ in your account. Then, when you are ready, you can withdraw from that book in your fiat currency.

Anyone do this or know if its realistically possible with rules and such?

                                                                      thanks

This way, someone could get started and feel comfortable not worrying about security or other tech aspects.
