EU licensees

Morning everybody

For bettors in certain EU member states it is of big importance that a bookmaker holds a gambling licence from member state of the EU.

For instance winnings from EU-bookies are tax free for Danish bettors, while winnings from bookies that does not have an EU gambling licence are not. If I remember correctly the situation is the same in Sweden.

I imagine that an EU-licence can be of importance for a number of other reasons and EU member states as well.

As a result of this, I have been looking for a complete list of bookmakers currently holding a gambling licence issued by a member state of EU. However I have not had any luck finding a such list.

My question is:
Do a list of EU-bookies exist? And where?

If not I hope that you will help me make such a list. Until now i know of:

There are companies who are registered elsewhere in the EU who do not have a UK licence, so i'm not sure how you will find them. Comeon bet is an example (although they have applied)

There will also be a lot of independent bookies here (shops) so will probably need to google to work out who you can use

I think your best bet is to work out which jurisdictions offer approved licensing and look for each ones member list. Like superhans has suggested with UK.

But I see more than 1200 just for active betting companies in that UK list.

Gibraltar and Malta are in the EU, as is the Isle of Man. The ones to watch out for are those in the Channel Islands, ie Guernsey and Alderney, which are outside the EU.

Note that some bookies use their UK licence only for UK-based customers and direct the others to their CI operations. This is for tax purposes and maybe these days because of the need for account separation in the UK.

Also note that the UKGC list often has the company registered name rather than its trading name. For example Done Brothers (Cash Betting) Limited is the shop operation of Betfred.

As I know all highrollers are using books outside european economic area and none of them pays taxes Note that British bookmarkers are all crappy, totally useless in this purpose as well as in every other purpose too.

Gibraltar and Malta are in the EU, as is the Isle of Man. The ones to watch out for are those in the Channel Islands, ie Guernsey and Alderney, which are outside the EU.

I agree about Malta and Gibraltar. However I am not so sure about Isle of man.

Also - I have noticed the books using an UK licence for UK-based customers and some foregn licence for other EU-citizens - which is just sad.

About winning outside of EU: I prefer to stick to the law. Which is why I need as many EU-bookies as possible.

I think they channel Islands are considered EU for trading purposes but you better check your country's gambling law. Unfortunately you won't get far in this business by sticking to the law, if gambling is your business. If it's just a hobby then fine.
As far as I know UK residents don't break any laws by betting with unregulated and even non-EU bookmakers.

That's good and you should be using European books as long as possible but in the longer term it isn't sustainable as they will all restrict you. If they don't it means they don't think of you as a threat. If they do then your only option would be offshore books and exchanges.
Most countries won't enforce fines against players that bet on unregulated sites.

You are probably right - however I have not been severely limited yet - other than at Interwetten.

I hope to find another bookmaker with just as silly odds as Interwetten.
